RNDP600E Readynas Pro Pioneer Edition - Can't connect to file shares owing to SMB1 protocol

I have been running the Pro Pioneer ReadyNAS very happily on home network for many years. I've upgraded the RAIDiator firmware as it's been released. Currently it is running RAIDiator-x86-4.2.31.

This morning when I attempted to access the shares |(through a Windows 10 computer) I got an error "Cannot connect to the file because it is not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack...".

I have read some imformation about how Microsoft have removed SMB1 and I can understand the reasoning behind the removal of SMB1. But I don;t understand why the latest RAIDiator firmware doesn't support

But is there any upgrade I can make to the ReadyNAS software to enable it to use SMB2 or something else. At the moment I can't get to any of my documents or media files which is something of a disaster!

(The version of windows 10 I am using does not have a NFS client so I cannot switch to using that)

    Hi projexe

    Welcome to the Community!

RAIDiator 4.2 boxes are a bit old if I may say and are not meant to run SMB2 anymore. You may want to consider upgrading your unit to an OS6 device or you can upgrade the unit's firmware to OS6 at your own risk since factory defaulting the unit and doing a full backup of your data is one of the required steps. Also, NETGEAR does not support this upgrade. SMB1 can be re-enabled as well but is definitely not advised.

You may want to take a look at this thread if you want to upgrade to OS6. But still, upgrading to a newer model is much recommended. You can still use your RNDP600E as a backup NAS if you want to.

    Regards

This LINK maybe less tedious than the 51 pages of the link above

It refers to a Pro 6 but is relevant also to other NAS's

Thank you gentlemen for the information and the link.  I've looked through the steps but will obviously complete a full backup before attempting it. However, what is the "ReadyNAS web gui firmware update"? Looking at my admin gui panel nothing seems like an obvious place to select a firmware file.
