Service Action to Prevent PSU Failures in ReadyNAS NV/NV+
A Service Action notice has been posted in the Announcement forum to prevent ReadyNAS NV and NV+ systems from premature power supply failures at viewtopic.php?t=10259. If you own a NV or NV+ within the serial number range in the notice, please either download and install the add-on or perform the simple fan reversal procedure. We've seen a small percentage of our customers experiencing power supply failure and we want to avoid any downtime you may encounter due to an unnecessary RMA process.

- hxallAspirantMy ReadyNAS NV+ just died, no email warnings were sent, the unit was found powered off and wouldn't power on, no leds are on and no noises are comming from the unit. The unit is being powered by a UPS which is also powering other devices, no problem with those. I originally purchased the unit in July 2007. I don't have it setup for timed power off / on. I believe the power supply just quit.
I've checked and my serial number is within the suspected range of the service action. How do I go about getting a replacement power supply as soon as possible? - beisser1Tutor

call your local techsupport. they will take care of that. - hxallAspirantDone it, thanks. New power supply is on it's way. Kudo's to Netgear tech support, and great service from Andy.
- Riccardo1AspirantGreat service for me too, but only after resolutive participation of beisser and chirpa with my local techsupport.
A warm thanks to beisser and chirpa. - hein1AspirantI did the fan reversal when this notice first came out.
I just traced a smell of burned plastic in my study to my ReadyNAS NV+ power supply. I'm totally out of warranty (got my unit about two years ago) -- are there still chances to get a free replacement PSU?
Thanks,
Hein - beisser1Tutorif your serial number is within the range of affected units yes.
- guyvert11Aspirant:( Just went back to check my torrents only to find no connection, then physical check found the unit off with a 'bad smell' wafting from it :(
Serial : 000da2014b73
So it looks like another to add to the 'small %' !!
Who's best to call in the UK?
Do I just get a PSU replacement or have to send the unit? - dbott67Guidehttp://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101460.asp

Typically a PSU has been sent along with replacement instructions.

Indeed they sent me a free replacement. That's great service :-)
-Hein - zeke561GuideI'm confused about this issue. I recently had an NV fail, and Netgear is sending a PS replacement, which is great. I also have an NV+ which if I'm not mistaken is outside the affected S/N range (000d a201 b43E). However, in reading some previous posts, I got the idea that newer units were to be shipped w/ minimum fan speed = 2100RPM, whereas the fan speed reading in Frontview from this unit is ~2000RPM. Telling Frontview to recalibrate actually lowered the readout slightly. The current readout is 1973 RPM. Am I missing something here?
