Single click very 10 minutes or so
My ReadyNAS DUO mk 1 with two Samsung 1TB drives is exhibiting some odd sysmptoms whilst continuing to work. I don't normally have it switched on but use it for back up of vital material - images and music - and use SyncToy for this purpose. Recently I've been hearing a signle click, like a relay operating, every 10 minutes or so whilst the ReadyNAS is turned off but still plugged into the mains. Has anyone else experienced this and thus know what it is and whether I should worry?

- If the unit is in fact powered off, I don't know of anything that would make a click sound in the box. You might want to remove the power (once you have powered down normally) and make sure the click is not coming from somewhere else.
- PapaBear, thanks for the response. I have already tried that and I'm certain it's the box!
- When it was unplugged, did you hear anything?
I just don't know what it could be with the Duo powered off as the drive and the fan are the only moving parts and they would be shut down. - No, no noise when disconnected. The noise sounds like a relay operating, which is very curious if there are no relays inside!
- You might remove the drives (with the unit powered down, but plugged in) - and see if the clicking stops.
- PapaBear and StephenB. Thanks so much for your interest. I've resolved the mystery. On a shelf right above the ReadyNAS there was a battery powered air freshener with an good battery but exhausted aerosol. It was this that was clicking. Good old ears were good at pinpointing the position, but not the height!!
