SO-DIMM 1GB DDR PC2700 333MHZ CRUCIAL

Spooky , did exactly the same thing today in my DUO too, and so far so good

(is it me, but I could of sworn there used to be a list on the comparability section for memory, which is where I found this model/spec of RAM a few months ago, but seems Netgear have stepped back from assisting with memory upgrades and want to leave it to us)

I tried to install a "SO-DIMM 1GB DDR PC2700 333MHZ CRUCIAL" CT12864X335 yesturday, but my DUO wont boot up. It just keeps flashing the blue powerled.

Hi neo25, I've the same problem with my NV+. Installed a new RAM, but it didn't work. Switched back and installed the old modul but it just keeps flashing the blue power LED and nothing else. Did you solve your problem in the meantime? Any solution for this?

same issue as neo.. id even got memory switch at the store, but, still the same, blue led keep flash and not found by raidAR :(

Gentlemen, this is exactly while there is no longer an HCL list for memory, and memory upgrades are not recommended. I did try a memory upgrade on my NV+ years ago, using a 1GB memory module (circa 2006) out of an old HP laptop. It worked fine, and never had a problem, but there was no appreciable increase in file transfer rates. A few months later when I needed the laptop back, I swapped the memory back and my NV+ now still has the original memory in it.

Memory manufacturers caused this issue when they changed the physical number of chips on the module and the chips themselves at time which upset the timing. They did not change the model numbers, so the 2006 module that worked and the 2011 module that doesn't have the same model numbers. If you have swapped back to the original memory and the NAS still won't boot, and you don't have current and complete backup, your only recourse is to contact Tech Support via an on line ticket (unless you have had the unit less than 90 days and qualify for free telephone support). If you have a current and complete backup, you can try a factory default (which will wipe the data and set up the unit as if it were new).

Hi I had the same problem on my Duo v1. RAM ordered direct from Crucial:
CT12864X335.K16FY
(1GB 200-PIN SODIMM 128Mx64 DDR PC2700 Pb-Free)

Duo wouldn't boot up. Can someone recommend another RAM module that is known to work?

I recommend that you reread all the discussions and the comments that point out that NETGEAR DOES NOT SUPPORT AFTERMARKET MEMORY UPGRADES. Unless you are running a lot of add on applications, a memory increase is unlikely to make a noticeable improvement in the performance of either the NV+ or Duo models.

PB I have read here that Rsync backups (alone) benefit significantly from increased RAM. Do you disagree?

While things like that can benefit from a RAM upgrade, it's unsupported. Memory manufacturers update memory modules rendering them incompatible but keeping the same module number. It's not worth upgrading the RAM imo.
