- maxblackAspirantI understand what "unsupported" means! That was not my interest re: Rsync.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeWell, it is hard to say if the CPU is the bottleneck in Sparc based units or the memory. I have an NV+ on which I run several rsync backups pulling from an NVX. On average a share that backs up from NAS1 to NAS2 (both NVX units) that takes 30 seconds will take about 60 seconds going from NAS2 to NAS3 (my NV+). I have never been overly concerned on the time any of my rsync backups take since they generally happen I am asleep or in the background. NAS1 is my primary unit, and the NAS1 to NAS2 backups occur starting at 12:05AM. The NAS2 to NAS3 (again the NV+) start at 12:05PM, but since I am not normally using files on those machines, it doesn't affect me. The longest I ever remember a share taking to back up via rsync was about 15 minutes, but I had added about 50GB of video files to the share.
In any regards, I don't think it would be a significant difference with the increased memory, or Netgear would have done it long ago after the price of memory dropped. The one time I did have 1GB of ram in my NV+, I could not notice any file transfer difference. But that was in copy/paste to a PC, not NFS or rsync. I am extremely committed between now and next week, so I will try to time some controlled experiments next week to see what the impact actually is. - maxblackAspirantOK. Well, thanks PB. I can't put my finger on the posts I read where folks said it made a significant difference--maybe indeed it was speculation on their part and not tested/proven, or was based on an assumption involving Rsync and its memory requirements.
I was merely challenging your statement that a memory upgrade was only needed if lotsa apps were being run--didn't mean to make any further work for you! ;) - PapaBear1ApprenticeWell, it is probably something that needs to be documented one way or another. It will just have to wait for now. The no significant improvement was also my impression from the performance, not actual timing of file transfers.
- plc2001AspirantHas anybody used the recent batch of CT12864X335 from Crucial?

Unless you are running a lot of add on applications, a memory increase is unlikely to make a noticeable improvement in the performance of either the NV+ or Duo models.
I understand this but I am trying to use the DLNA and iTunes service the performance is terrible. The iTunes service won't even start correctly most of the time and I cannot access it's web interface. I fully understand the unsupported statement, however I'm just asking the community if they know of any current RAM modules that work - the risk from that point forward is my own :D - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retireddrazic19 what version of RAIDiator are you running? There are performance issues with 4.1.8. If running that you may find updating to 4.1.9 beta (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59222) resolves your problem.
