ST2000DL003 Compatibility?
Being a RNP user that is running out of space, I'm wanting to purchase new drives.
I'm interested in using the Seagate ST2000DL003 2TB drives.
These drives are not currently listed on the compatibly list.
Any word on when they might be tested?

- B52hbuffAspirant....nevermind. I need glasses. ;)
- piston_brokeAspirantJust recieved a ST2000DL003 from netgear as the free hard drive for the duo offer in the UK so now I have a DL003 to go in slot 2 and ST32000542AS in slot 1
So the DL003 must be compatible if netgear are sending them out ? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes. It's on the compatibility list for the Duo.
- nixlimitedAspirantI just had one of these discs fail in an Ultra 6 after about 3 months.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDisks can and do fail at any time. So just the one failed at that time?
- nixlimitedAspirantYeah. I have had terrible luck with discs. I think I am just going to suck it up and start buying enterprise-level drives. I have had 2 WD EADS drives die and now one of these new Seagate drives. Luckily this time I have dual redundancy as well as a back-up of everything.
- ferg1GuideWhat's the current consensus of opinion on this drive?
I'm in the process of setting up a new Pro6 with dual redundancy. I purchased 4 x ST2000DL003 from one supplier and 2 x ST2000DL003 from another supplier.
Out of the first batch one drive failed within a few hours of setting the unit up. I RMA'ed that drive.
Then a few days later a second drive failed from the second batch. I also RMA'ed that drive.
In both cases no SMART errors were received, but after the disc failure SEATOOLS reported errors with the drives.
I factory defaulted the unit (now with one of the drives being a ST2000NM0011 - it should have been a ST32000644NS)
After a few hours of creating a dual redundancy xraid2 volume I had a third ST2000DL003 fail. I rebooted the unit and the failure has gone away and now the unit is happily synching away.
So within a week I've had 3 apparent failures out of a batch of 7 (one replacement from an RMA). - PapaBear1ApprenticeSometimes the way OEM drives are packed for shipment can have in impact if the box received a blow or hard handling enroute. WD and Seagate drives have no factory protection other than the static bag. I have not purchased a Samsung drive in years, so cannot comment on them. Hitachi drives are wrapped in a static bag, then into a box with styrene standoffs to keep the drive from impacting the sides of the box in case of rough handling. I have received Hitachi 3TB drives from different vendors, all in the same style box. Since the box has no label, either Neweggg and Amazon are using the same packing, or Hitachi is sending them this way to the vendor. Either way, I like the packing.
Ironically, replacement refurbished drives from Seagate are shipped in boxes with at least 2" of foam all the way around. (That is also they way they want you to ship the RMA'd drives to them. - ferg1Guide

Well these drives must be handled by very clumsy people :-)
Just had a fourth one fail on me! - B52hbuffAspirantI just had one fail in my Pro6. Glad I ordered seven drives. ;)
I'm getting an eSata-to-Sata cable today. I'll fire up Seatools and see what it says.
