Unable to access ReadyNAS NV+ through windows

In recent days I have found myself unable to access my ReadyNAS NV+ V1 using windows.   The Raidar application still finds it and I can open Frontview, but apart from that I have no access.   I have been using the NAS for about 12 years and have successfully transitioned through WIndows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10.   I was able to boot windows up in any of these three operating systems, and all could access files on the NAS through it's hostname '\\NAS'.   The problem appeared first on Windows 10, and from Windows 7 I could still access the NAS using its IP address 192.168.X.XXX.   I then re-booted the NAS, and sisnce then have had no access at all.   I haven't changed anything on the NAS, but it is possible that there were windows updates, as these happen automatically.
Windows explorer shows other network attached devices, but not the NAS.
Hopefully there is a straightforward explanation, as I have no network experience, so I'm not sure what to try.

  • As further information, I don't recall doing anything paricularly difficult to set it up initially.

Your NAS uses SMB 1.0 to host the network shares.  Microsoft has begun to deprecate SMB 1.0 (the current version is SMB 3).

Start by going into "turns window features on or off" in Windows, and make sure the SMB 1 client is enabled in the PC.
