If you are not concerned about the data, the drive can be connected to a Windows machine and formatted in the NTSF format. I have several older smaller drives retired from ReadyNAS use in use as spare Windows drives.
If you want to read the data outside the ReadyNAS box, or want to use it on an Linux system, then I will allow others to comment.
