WD20EARS-00MVWB0 WD Caviar Green - 2TB
I'm recently wanting to setup a NAS to use as a backup and media streaming solution, the Netgear ReadyNAS nv+ seems like the right solution for me.
Since there's 4-bays i want to put four 2TB drives into it and setup the drives in RAID5, so i ordered two 2TB WD20EARS-00MVWB0 drives from play.com (could only afford two at the time)
I've got the drives and was looking at the Netgear ReadyNAS nv+ on amazon uk, was looking at the comments and someone said in their comment that the WD WD20EARS drives aren't the best drives to use and some aren't supported.
I've seen a few threads which are mostly old (few years ago) about people not getting the drives to work, then some threads where people have updated the firmware did and factory reset and the drives have worked fine.
So basically before i buy the Netgear ReadyNAS nv+, i want to know if the Western Digital WD20EARS-00MVWB0 drives are supported by the Netgear ReadyNAS nv+ and will work in RAID5 without any issues ???
and if they do work, is there any steps i will need to take besides updating the firmware on the NAS ??
Please reply ASAP, as if they are not compatible i will need to return the drives.

- ReadySECUREApprenticeHello,
The WD20EARS-00MVWB0 are NOT compatible with the ReadyNAS NV+. There is one model of the WD20EARS that is supported, Model # WD20EARS-00S8B1, with only Firmware 80.00A80.

I have two WD20EARS models for my NV+, one is 00MVWB0 and another is 22MVWB0. Either of them works with RAIDiator 4.1.8 [1.00a043] just fine.readysecure1985 wrote: Hello,

http://support.netgear.com - bkvAspirantHi
I just added a WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 (Caviar Green 2tb) to my ReadyNAS Ultra 2, and I got two messages saying: "Newly added disk has failed SMART test. Please check disk 2." So I suppose it does not work. On the health-page it is shown as OK, though.

Bjorn - mikej0317AspirantHello I also have a NV+, and have ordred two late model Western Digital WD20EARS. They haven't arrived, yet, and I'm not sure if the latest firmware and
the latest RAIDiator would make it the best compatibilty or not. Are there still issues, due to the 4ksector issue, or has that been resolved? - Hi
At what stage did the WD20EARS drop off the NV+ compatibility list? It's no longer there. Only the WD20EARX is now listed for the NV+ (version 1)
Is this a deliberate action, or some sort of malfunction in the database. I believe this drive has fallen off a few other models too, but can't be 100percent certain about that.
Bullfrog - Some of us have also noticed this and asked, but Netgear has not responded.
Since this potentially withdraws support for drives that were on the HCL when purchased, I think they do need to respond.
