WD30EZRX Any problems ?
Its not on the official compatibility list ofc, but im hoping thats just a matter of time.
Tho a confirmation from someone thats actually tried one would be much appreciated.
This is for an Ultra4 plus with fresh firmware btw.
I'd get the officially approved if possible ofc, but manufacturers change versions faster then they get tested it seems.

this explains it very good
YIKES! I looked at my SMART data on my hard disk. 2 of them are in there for 7 months and have over 500k load cycles. The last hard disk was installed about 2 months ago and is fast hitting 270k. In comparison, my laptop hard disk which has been in use for 2 years, has about 5k load cycle.
Going to disable the idle timer later tonight. - AmienAspiranti just did it .. bought the ultra 4 incl 3x 3TB WD .. compant where i bought these disks was so kind to do a wdidle/d for me on all three disks. so far so good!
- sdchewAspirantAnyone ever considering running this linux tool after SSH into the NAS and doing it there directly?

That worked like a charm! Thanks mdgm! - gandalfnetAspirantthese drives work PERFECT with large file copies with firmware version 5.3.2
Had it for over a month and copied over 5 TB of data with no issues.
BUT the new 5.3.5 totally breaks these drives and will crash your NAS on big file copies...
Is there anyone that can get ahold of the Firmware folks and let them know?
This drive is on the compatability list for the DUO V2 but not the NV+ V2 (I could of swore it was on before)
Which does not make sense since it looks like the DUO and the NV+ V2's are idendical... - CausticAspirantIs there any updates on this disk? I am finding it really hard to find a reasonably priced HDD for a NV+ v2 that is compatable. There are only 4 listed! One includes only a single year warranty, one isn't out yet, one is really pricey. The WD30EZRX sounds good but people are reporting issues!
- PapaBear1ApprenticeWD has just released a new series, the Red Label drives in 1, 2 and 3TB models specifically aimed at the NAS market. They have a three year warranty. The WD30EFRX is on the HCL and is $10 more than the WD30EZRX at Newegg. There were in stock Friday but sold out today. You can click on the notify button and they will notify you when they are back in stock. Amazon has listed at the time of this posting, but they are $30 more than the EZRX and sold by a third party which means you will probably have to add shipping to the $199.99 whereas the EZRX sold by Amazon at $169.99 will not add shipping. (Newegg delivered price for the EZRX is $177.85 and the EFRX Red Label is $187.27). Me, I would wait, in fact I am considering a couple for my own use.
- CausticAspirantI am tempted to wait for them to come out over here in the UK. I'm just a little worried about getting since they are so new. They might be on the HCL but items do get added and then *removed* from that list when someone finds they don't actually work that well.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeWhat is different about these drives is that the first certification was done not by Netgear but by Western Digital in several ReadyNAS units as well as competing products. To my knowledge, these are the first consumer grade drives designed specifically for multi disk RAID arrays. Although WD initially certified the drives in the ReadyNAS Duo, Ultra 2 Plus, Ultra 4 and Pro 6, Netgear has certified the drive in a much wider range of ReadyNAS units including the Duo V2 but not the Duo (v1).
