What are your experiences on this?
Hey Netgear, I can't understand why you don't have a dyn dns client built-in in FrontView - it amazes me. Let me remind you that it's 2012.

- DnsOMatic - didn't work for all hosts (as promised) and used dum constant updates and we got warnings from DynDNS etc.
DynDns - the old one, might work, never worked for me.

Interesting. I still use my old free account, and I don't think my IP changes very often. Though I haven't really tracked it either.eton wrote: ...And I finally understood why most of my DynDNS.org addresses stoped working. The free accounts at DynDNS must be updated at least every 30 days, but not with the same IP. So that leaves me and a lot of outers out. Because my dynamic IP provided by my ISP changes vary seldom. - etonLuminaryHmm, interesting. I'll see how it works with No-IP. If the same problems reoccur, it might be soemthing else, my router, firewall or ISP.
- Dewdman42VirtuosoDynDNS allowed some people to be grandfathered in if they stayed active. So if you still have DynDNS account, don't let it expire, if it expires, no more free account.
Here's the settings I used with ddclient to enable no-ip, after signing up through their website first:
protocol=noip, \
server=dynupdate.no-ip.com, \
login=login@xyz.com, \
password=12345 \
xxxx.servebeer.com
I don't remember quite exactly how I found that. It seems like initially I also found the document you are talking about that does not list no-ip as a supported service, but then later on I did find an example config file that had a dozen or two services, including no-ip. I can't remember now. Anyway it works. - etonLuminaryThanks Dewdman42!
I'l update my settings with the line "server=dynupdate.no-ip.com" and hopefully it works. - Dewdman42VirtuosoI actually had a problem with it I didn't realize until today, it was not getting my ip from my router correctly. I updated my config file to the following and now seems to get the router ip addr correctly.
mail-failure=steve@myemail.com
# this gets our router's ip address from external service
use=web, web=checkip.amazonaws.com
protocol=noip, \
login=steve@myemail.com, \
password=xxxxx \
xxxx.servebeer.com
That being said, I also got an email from no-ip.com today saying that I have to manually click on a weblink once a month to keep the free account active. What a pain. I'm not sure why that is the case, could be that ddclient does not try to update it unless the ip changes, or something of that nature.
So two questions for everyone,- Does anyone know how to make ddclient force an manual push to the provider once a month or so, in the case when the ip has not changed?
- Does anyone know which FREE provider does not have this annoying manual requirement once a month?

- WhoCares_MentorThanks for the report. It actually looks like DDClient will only update when the IP address has changed unless told otherwise. So I'll add a function that will force an update every Sunday, which should be sufficient for most cases.

Great! As you might know many dyn dns service providers only allow IP update if the IP has changed (and for some you also have to update every 30 days - which is kinda like catch-22). One way to work around the problem could be to first update to a fake number and after that update to the correct/old IP. - Dewdman42VirtuosoYes I noticed that when I stopped ddclient and started it again, I got an error message about trying to update with the same IP and they called it "abusive". Seems like doing a temporary change to a fake ip and then back again may be the only way, though they might required a 300 or 600 second waiting period between those changes. Not sure.
- boogermeAspirantI have a problem, I registered a free no-ip host, installed the client and set this config:
use=web, web=checkip.amazonaws.com \
protocol=noip, \
login=username, \
password=password, \
myhost.no-ip.org
the host works correctly, the problem is that it doesn't seem to update the IP address.
I tried to change my IP but the new one has not been sent to no-ip, and I had to manually update it.
where's the problem? thanks. - WhoCares_MentorDid you replace the login, password any host entries just for publicly posting the confg or is this what you're actually using?
