SABnzbd 0.7.3 "No UNRAR program found"

I just bought, downloaded and installed Python 2.7 and SABnzbd 0.7.3 for my NV+.
Went through the installation steps, it can connect to my usenet provider (using SSL if that matters).

However I get a warning in SABnzbd "No UNRAR program found, unpacking RAR files is not possible".

Through SSH I found that newsunpack.py is here "./usr/share/sabnzbdplus/sabnzbd/newsunpack.py".

I have no clue what's wrong and hope someone can help.

  • Received this email:

    Dear ReadyNAS User,

After the release of the SABnzbd (Sparc) add-on a fellow user found that in some cases the UNRAR utility won't get installed on fresh installs of the add-on. To fix this issue, the attached updated add-on was released and is sent out to you for updating.

To update you current install of the SABnzbd add-on, please install the attached version over the existing version on your ReadyNAS. Do NOT uninstall the currently installed version.

    Sincere apologies for this inconvenience.

    Best regards,
    ReadyNAS Xtras

I downloaded and installed the update, but now I get a warning saying "Your UNRAR version is not recommended, get it from http://www.rarlab.com/rar_add.htm"
  • Since you have SSH access, could you please send the output from
    dpkg -l | grep unrar

The version of unrar should be 4.1.4 which is one of the latest available. Unfortunately SAB constantly fails to detect the version it dislikes correctly.

  • Stefan,
    The output for that is:
unrar 1:4.1.4-1.1rnx0 Unarchiver for .rar files (non-free version)
  • That's the latest version and as supected, SAB just fails to detect it properly. Should work fine but if you encounter any problems with unpacking please let me know.

  • If I got an old version, how do I upgrade unrar then?

    I have a Readynas ultra 6 with Radiator 4.2.22 and sabnzbd 0.7.6 (x86).

Output for dpkg -l | grep unrar is:

    # dpkg -l | grep unrar
ii unrar 1:3.5.4-1.1 Unarchiver for .rar files (non-free version)

    And unrar version shows:

    # unrar
UNRAR 3.51 freeware Copyright (c) 1993-2005 Alexander Roshal

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    EDIT: Reinstalling sabnzbd fixed it!

Output for dpkg -l | grep unrar is now:

    # dpkg -l | grep unrar
ii unrar 1:4.1.4-1.1rnx0 Unarchiver for .rar files (non-free version)

    And unrar version shows now:

    # unrar
UNRAR 4.10 freeware Copyright (c) 1993-2012 Alexander Roshal
  • You don't. Either use the one installed by default, or the one bundled with the version of Sabnzbd you purchase from WhoCares.
  • Reinstall whichever version of SABnzbd you have over the top of itself. If you've installed Transmission (or an update to it) by Super-Poussin, it will replace the UNRAR version installed by SABnzbd with an older (not recommend) version. Re-installing SABnzbd over the top of itself will solve this problem.
