1080p streaming ?

Please try to enable Jumbo Frames on ReadyNas and test again. Please let me know the result.

Is it silver, or charcoal? Silver color would be the NV+ v1 (25MB/s), charcoal would be NV+ v2 (~50MB/s). Whereas the Ultra can do around 80MB/s.

What is the client playing back the video, and is it gigabit connected?

Enabling Jumbo frames on the v1 won't help, they only work on the write end, not read (viewtopic.php?p=141397#p141397). And the v2 has no Jumbo Frame option (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=67272).

Client playing the video is a HTPC. Should be gigabit connected.

I have a Netgear ProSafe FVS318N router with good ethernet cables so my whole network is supposed to be Gigabit.

I also have the Ultra version (RNDP400U-100NAS) but i am using it for storing other files so i would like to avoid switching my movies to that one.

For $550 plus shipping i was expecting 1080p streaming without lag. Like i said the lag is really minor but still noticable in fast action scenes.

BTW by Blu-Ray are compressed. Around 12GB for a 1h30 1080p movie.

more likely its the client.

have you tried streaming the same movie from the ultra?

most single hd streams generally can be streamed on fast ethernet (ie appletv), unless you are doing some other heavy io while streaming, even the old sparc devices can stream hd.

Just wanted to add the full BluRay streaming requires about 7 MB/s, A 12 GB 90 minute movie requires about 2 MB/s. So all of these products are > 10x faster than what is needed.

Are you seeing the video stall and rebuffer? Or a audio/video lip sync problem? Or the frame rate appearing to slow down? I am not sure what you mean by "lag" exactly.

What i mean by lag is that the frame rate appears to slow down during big action scenes. Sometimes it freezes for a fraction of second then start again

I've got some blu-ray images on my ReadyNAS, they can playback fine to MacBookPro with VLC, but the AppleTV2 struggles in some scenes.

Client = HTPC = AMD A8-3870K + Radeon HD 6550D + intel gigabit lan card (forgot which one)

Can play all recent games fine.

have you tried using another video player to see if it is a decoding issue. sounds like a decoder issue to me, e.g not enough cpu/gpu power. check drivers. it might be trying to play using CPU not gpu.

Ok.

Causes for this kind of thing can be (1) the media file itself has a problem, (2) the playback capacity of the player (GPU performance or insufficient buffering), (3) a network issue of some kind, (4) the server.

You can try copying the file over to the ultra and also the HTPC local disk, and see if the problem changes.
