Adding disk to RN102
I have an RN102 that currently has 1 - 4TB drive in it, I want to add a 2nd 4TB drive. I do not want or need the protection of RAID, I want to have the added storage so I end with ~8TB of storage. The different RAID settings are confusing to me, so I am not sure of the best method or setting to accomplish what I want.
It is in the default of X-RAID right now, do I just add the 2nd drive and automatically get the added storage, or do I need to change to Flex-RAID?
Can I add the 2nd drive hot, or it is best to power down and add it cold?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice.

- NhellieVirtuosoYou will have to change it to Flex-Raid,

- vandermerweMasterI would not advise setting up a single volume on more than 1 disk. If you have a volume that spans 2 or more disks then the entire volume is lost if one disk fails.
Setup one volume per disk.
I assume you either don't need, or already have, a backup of the data that is kept on this nas. - gwj123AspirantThanks vandermerwe, that makes sense. What is the best method to set it up as 2 volumes?
- vandermerweMasterYou need to disable Xraid and this will put you in flexraid mode. Make sure it is set as jbod.
Then when you add the disk ( hot add), it will appear in the list of disks on the volume tab. You should then have the option to select this new disk and create a new volume on this new disk. ( the new volume button is on the right)
Don't delete the existing volume and didn't include the old disk in your new volume.
If you add the disk in Xraid it will automatically use the new disk to create redundancy ( with 2 disks this will be raid 1) and you would not gain any space. - 1793Tutor

I would definitely make a back up of your existing Volume before you proceed with this project. - 1793Tutor

- gwj123AspirantThanks all, worked like a charm.
Did a backup, changed from X-raid to Flex-raid, added the 2nd HD "hot" and created it as a second volume.
I now have two ~4TB volumes. - 1793Tutor
