Adding Drives to RN104

I just picked up the RN104. I started with 2x 3TB Seagate drives. They built the volume (which took a solid 24 hours) and are in RAID 1 / X-RAID.

I then added another formatted 3TB drive (same model) to bay 3, and the unit keeps going back and forth with this:

What gives? The drive state is "UNKNOWN".

    Give tech support a call and post your case number.

    You say you formatted the disk before adding it? The ReadyNAS needs to format the disk. It is best to add blank unformatted disks with no partitions.
  • Correct, I had some files on the disk previously, so before adding them to the nas I formatted it (ntfs, no partitions).. Guess I'll have to call support.

    NTFS would mean one partition unless you deleted the partition after you formatted it to use NTFS.
  • AH, yep i did a delete volume in windows and now the nas is picking it up. Thank you for the help.
