Apps not appearing in frontview
Okay... Factory resetting is getting really really old. Got my RN516 all factory reset for the third time, and got most of my data back on it and I went to the apps page to make sure I corrected another issue I had last go-around. Nothing shows up under available apps... Thinking that the app server may just be down for a bit, I just installed one from Poussin's dropbox. I get a confirmation e-mail saying the app has been installed, but nothing is in "my apps." This is on the main screen and in the apps page. Nothing is listed. I've checked between chrome and safari. No dice. The pages seem to load, there's just nothing listed in the apps areas. Same story after a reboot.

- x219cLuminaryJust a quick update while it's rebuilding. I went in via http and I'm getting the same thing. I'll be checking the rest out once it gets finished.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you are not comfortable with the support implications of using SSH it would be best to leave that disabled.
- x219cLuminaryI'm fine as long as I can understand what I'm doing. I'm familiar with the command line in windows, and understand this is similar... I just research what I'm doing before I do it. As far as whether or not I should HAVE to SSH in to get the machine working is my real concern. I'm not doing anything remotely unusual with it that should require me to SSH in, really. Of course, it's a technical device, and I expect it to be more than a typical person to set-up I also understand glitches here and there, and I've been pretty good about the factory resets, which take enormous amounts of time... As long as I can get this thing working this time, I'll be happy. Like I say, it's not unusual to want RAID6 and a few apps. Really, there's only 5 apps I'm interested in. Plex, Transmission, sickbeard, owncloud (though, that's more to supplement features that were just added) and perhaps the Photos II app. Though, I've never been able to get that last one working. It doesn't sound, to me, to be anything really unusual.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSSH is not necessary for end users. Some advanced users like to use it and we include it for them, but we certainly don't expect our users to SSH in to look at things.
For the Photos II app some users have found the port configuration gets messed up on their systems. - x219cLuminaryWell, mdgm... Once rebuilt and the OS reinstalled... All appears to be working!!! It's 1AM here, so I'm going to trust that it's working for now. What I tested was Poussin's updated (and excellent) sickbeard app! Thank you both! With this going, I'm betting everything else will be running great too!
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredGood to hear. Glad we could help :)

No problem. I just noticed the same symptoms that I encountered in the image you included and thought I'd share my experience. But it seems the symptoms I encountered had a very different root cause than yours.mdgm wrote: SSH is not necessary for end users. I agree and this was my initial plan to begin with when I first bought the NAS. Just use the web admin interface and leave the OS and SSH command line terminals alone. Especially if NetGear might void the warrenty if you change the system and doesn't support you in using the command line via SSH. But when something basic like SSI is not enabled by default and no one could tell me what to change exactly to turn it on, I was left with little other choice than to figure it out myself. Invested a lot of time to figure out how to configure the Apache webserver, that I had rather spent on using the apps on the system. But in the end it is time well spent, because I now have more control over the configuration of the webserver on RN516. - x219cLuminaryI'm sure I'll learn it more as time and needs progress. The only time I use it now is to restart it when frontview isn't working.
