Backup not working
I haven't run my regular backup jobs for a month. In that time I have:
Replaced disk #1 after failure & resynced
Replaced disk #2 after failure & resynced
Upgraded to version 4 of FrontView
None of my previously existing Remote: Windows (NAS/Timestamp) backup jobs work. I get an "unable to access remote share" error.
I have tried:
1) Resetting up the backup job - still get "unable to acess" error
2) Swapping forward slashes for back slashes - still get error
3) Verified the backup locations are reachable from other locations on my Windows network.
Attached is a snippet from one of my backup jobs. Any help would be appreciated:

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertWe still haven't been able to reproduce this in-house. Is anyone else willing to provide remote access for debugging? Please PM me if you're interested.
- ehgeahrevAspirantjust bought a readynas and tried to set up backup jobs.
'test connection' works fine. actually running the backuptask leads to the errorlog below. I tried everything: with or without username/password, slashes in all directions but without result...
plse help, different people reported the same problem since early january. what's the use of a NAS if automatic backup does not work?

What are the details for your backup job?
I am following your instructions "Using Rsync for NAS-to-NAS Backups" to the letter. On page 9 when I click the test connection I get an error box saying "Error connecting to xx.xx.xx.xx.
I have 2 NAS boxes.
On one NAS box I have created a share called test. I can connect to this share via a PC with no problems and can access files.
On another NAS box I have created a backup job with these parameters
Step 1 - Select Backup Source
Remote: Rsync Server
Path xx.xxx.xx.xx::test
Login Admin
p/W ********
I press test connection and I get the error.
What other information do you need?
Thanks

Please verify that the rsync service is turned on for the source NAS, and that rsync is enabled for the source share.Ashton_white wrote:

Please keep in mind that the login/password mechanism for rsync uses the logins and passwords specified in the rsync access configuration page, and are completely separate from user account logins and passwords. So, if you don't have a user and password for "admin" set in the rsync access configuration page, then using those credentials will not work. - ewokNETGEAR Expert

So far, I've looked at two users' NASes from this thread, and neither one had a backup problem that was attributable to the ReadyNAS. Are you willing to provide remote access? - fourthturnAspirantCan you tell us what fixed their problems? If their symptoms were the same, maybe the fix is the same for us.

Sure. How do you wanna do this? what do I need to provide to you? - ewokNETGEAR Expert

One had the wrong syntax in the path field for the backup job, one had a DNS problem, and another user in another thread with a similar issue updated the firmware on his non-ReadyNAS device which resolved the problem. - ewokNETGEAR Expert
