Can I set up ReadyNAS Duo without RAID?
I've just installed a ReadyNAS 4 Ultra with (for now) two 2GB drives. I would like to use my old ReadyNAS Duo with two 1GB drives as an on-line backup for the new box, but I would need to configure the two drives as one large volume if that is possible. Is there any way to do that? The Duo is running 4.2.16.

- sphardy1ApprenticeIIRC - you can create a single RAID-0 volume: To do so you need to factory default your Duo, configure it to use Flex-RAID mode, and then can choose to build the single RAID-0 volume that spans both disks.
Obligatory warning: If either disk fails you will lose ALL data on the Duo... - sexauerwAspirantThank you. And I'm not too worried about the warning, I'll be using it as the backup to the 4 Ultra just because I have it. I'll also be doing backups to USB drives. So I think I'm covered there.
- sexauerwAspirantWell, that didn't work. I did the Factory Default but didn't find any way to change the RAID setting. So the Duo is still in RAID-X configuration. Did I miss something? Was there some other setting that had to be in a certain configuration before the RAID-0 choice became possible?
- sphardy1ApprenticeYou need to use the RAIDar utility to configure the NAS - Factory default it again while RAIDar is running on your PC. It will discover the NAS on boot and then give you the options to configure the RAID setup
- sexauerwAspirantThat did it! Both NAS units are up and running the way I want them and I have an automatic backup scheduled on the 4 Ultra to the Duo; it's running now. And along the way I figured out how to get both units to get power notifications from the single UPS that they share; and I finally got the Duo to be able to send e-mail alerts! In two years now I've never before been able to get that working.
I'm a happy camper now! Everything is working the way I want it to, at long last. - WulfAspirantThis is not working for me and I Cant figure out why. here is the proceedure I am following
1. Power off NAS
2. Turn on RAIDar (most recent version)
3. Press and hold reset button
4. Turn on NAS while holding reset until the drive lights turn on
The NAS then goes through the boot process
RAIDar sees it boot but at no time do I Get the chance to reconfigure the raid.
HELP
There is currently 2 500GB drives in there but if I can get this working I wil lreplace them with 2x2TB drives to give me 4TB of space
Help would be appreciated
I have a ReadyNAS Duo RND2150-100NAS - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYour steps are mostly correct. However step 4 should be "Turn on NAS while still holding reset button until LEDs blink a second time (after about 30 seconds)".
Then you find the NAS in RAIDar, after a few tests are run, you'll be able to click setup and choose Flex-RAID.
