Can my 4.2.2x (Ultra 6) disks be accessible on a OS6 system ?

Hi,

My Ultra 6 (4.2.2x) died on me yesterday. It won't go past the bootlogo. Also the procedure with going into the bootmenu doesn't work with or without the disks.

The disks were ok before this happened so i called Netgear support NL.

They assured me that i could just pop these disks in a OS6 system(ofcourse in the same order) like a 316 and they would be accessible again.

Although some functions wouldn't be available the shares would be accesible.

I could then backup this to another NAS and , reset and factory reset the new unit and then put the data back again.

Could someone confirm this and explain how and what happens when i do this ?

Offcourse i am a little anxious that the unit would start formatting these unknown and 'old' disks.

Does it matter that OS6 uses btrfs and the 4.2.2x ?

I got my hands on a Pro 6 with OS6.5 on it, factory defaulted and all. Does this change anything or matter here ?

I hope somebody has some answers for me.

rgrds Mike

      Ok,

So i took the plunge and installed the disks in the other (working) Pro 6 system.

It boots and even displays frontview.

However it notes the volume as being offline.

All disks are being seen as fine, as i had expected since i had no problems with these in the first place.

I logged in tru ssh and ran fdisk -l to get some more info. (I found this somewhere else n the forum).

(I noticed something else: the previous owner claimed he had upgraded the unti to OS6.5 but since the os runs from the disk my setup offcourse shows 4.2.26.)

Also the display on the unit keeps displaying 'Booting' .

Does anybody now why the volume  is offline and how can i get it online ?

Is this behaviour also to be expected when i put these disks in a new 316 ?

If not i could just go out and buy a 316 if that solves it.

I have already bought some big usb drives because support told me that the volume would get online but in some kind of readonly mode.

(So i could offload the data to a usb drive and do a factory reset).

I have logs downloaded as well, if anyone is interested.

      Output is posted below.

      nas-EB-0B-D5:~# fdisk -l
