Cannot access share from new computer

Hi,

I built a new replacement system with a fresh copy of Windows 8. I need to get at the shares I created with an old Windows 7 computers. When I look at the share, \\nas-pro\shares, on my Pro 6 from the new system I get prompted for a username and password. But I keep getting prompted until I give up and then Windows says I do not have access. Is there some way to make this share accessible from ever Windows computer I have on the network?

Thanks,

Jerry

PS. I suspect this is common issue so feel free to point me to a FAQ.

If your NAS is using "share" security you should change it to "user" security. http://readynas.sphardy.com/2010/09/how ... _4917.html

Once done, you can certainly use frontview to change all your shares to "everyone" access. Or use windows credentials manager to set every PC to use the same logon/password when accessing the NAS.

    What firmware are you running?

    Thanks. I am running RAIDiator-x86 4.2.24.

I did the first step, but am uncertain how to "change all your shares to "everyone" access".

Currently, Under the Share List -> CIFS tab. I have Share Access Restriction = Allow guest access, Share Display Option = no items checked, Advanced CIFS Permission -> "Automatically Set permissions on new files and folder", Group rights: read/write, Everyone rights : read/write, Advanced CIFS- Permissions -> When new folders are create .... set permission as follows: Group rights: read/write, Everyone rights : read/write.

    Is there another setting.

That is the correct settings. You can also go into the "advanced" tab and reset the owners and permissions there.

Set the "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders..." check box, and then press apply. When it completes there should be a popup. The completion will also be logged.

Also, is network connection on the Windows 8 system set to "private"?
  • I did set the ownership and permission for existing file and folders. The log entry is : "[Users] Share contents ownership and permissions changed to match the share.". However I still cannot see the share I created with Windows 7.

The network connection is set to "private" and from what I have read there is no way to make it "public" on an ethernet connection.

    "Private" is what you want.

If you go into Windows Credentials Manager (in the control panel), is there a credential stored for the NAS?
