Can't backup to FTP
Hi,
I've got two RN10400 with three 3TB HDDs in each. One is for photos and music, the other serves as backup place. At first I wanted to use built-in ReadyNas Replicate function for backup purposes but since it requires license key to work (after 45 days trial) I decided to try FTP.
I thought that when I enebale FTP in one of them, I'll be able to create backup job and send all the files from one to another via network. Unfortunately, when I set everything up the job always "fails during copy" (with no other information given). Even though the source one can see the destination one and "test connection" runs without errors.
Any help pls?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIs the backup NAS on your home network, or somewhere else?
- RostaAspirantBoth are in the same network
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThen the best protocol to use is rsync.
- RostaAspirantI'm sure it is. But I'm not asking which one is better. But what could be wrong with FTP?
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou need to enable FTP as a service in the destination NAS, and also make sure the destination path is configured for FTP. Of course the backup job also needs the correct credentials and path name.
But if you want to do incremental backups, it REALLY is a bad idea to use FTP.
The fastest way to get it started is to configure a backup job for NFS, run it once, then edit the job and change the protocol to rsync. - RostaAspirantSo, Rsync it is afterall. Just one quick question, if I may... I set up the backup task through browser interface but it's really just a backup. I can't figure out how to make the Rsync to rewrite previous backup with the new one, so I'm little worried that the second NAS will be full in no time. Will the Rsync start erasing old backups then?
- StephenBGuru - Experienced Userrsync copies files to a fixed destination. If it is set to delete files on the destination that aren't on the source, the NAS should not get full. Snapshots could create a space issue if there is a lot of file churn - but that will impact both NAS. If it becomes problem, you can disable snapshots on both devices, and manually delete any old snapshots.
- RostaAspirantOne more question, is it possible to mirror them instead of clssic backup task?
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWhat do you mean by "mirror"?
- RostaAspirantWell, the same mirror you can create with two disks (aka RAID 1). In other words, so the content of NAS1 would be exactly the same on NAS2. In terms of data
