Can't copy or delete a folder/file
Greetings. I was just going to ignore this but I am curious.
I keep my iTunes library on my NAS and had a downloaded audiobook which is a .m4b file get stuck in the download folder.
In the past I've been able to move audio files out of there and rename and all was okay.
This particular file if I try to copy it or delete the folder it freezes explorer. I cannot even look at the properties of the m4b file.
Now another .m4b file that did copy over successfully is fine. Perhaps that folder (created by iTunes) has some special permissions on it or something. Not really sure. Of course the issue is you cannot re-download audiobooks so will just deal with customer service.
Just curious how a folder or filename could cause that issue. Now the folder did have a .tmp extension and I thought that was the original issue. But although it let me rename the folder that did not help.
Not the end of the world but just curious. I guess at this point would be happy just to delete it.
Perhaps using the NAS interface is the ticket? Strange situation....
Thanks,
BJB
PS....I did scan, no viruses or anything strange like that....it truly was downloaded via iTunes and is "stuck".

- vandermerweMasterHave you tried deleting it using the GUI?
Is iTunes perhaps using the file, have you tried rebooting your PC?
If this does not work, try resetting the file permissions for the share, (share settings, file access, reset.) this will reset all files to owner and group of guest/ guest.
What firmware are you using? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDefinitely try deleting from the GUI (and reboot/try again if that fails). Also check the logs and the SMART stats on the drives. If the drives look good, and you still can't delete I'd submit a support ticket via support.netgear.com (email if you purchased more than 90 days ago).
- BJBAspirantThanks, will try deleting via the GUI tonight. I did reboot the PC's (well had no choice after explorer crashed) which made no difference.
I was current on firmware the last time I checked but offsite so not sure of the number right now. I only use public release firmware if that helps.
Thanks again,

I meant reboot the NAS, not the PC.BJB wrote: I did reboot the PC's (well had no choice after explorer crashed) which made no difference. - BJBAspirantLOL, oops. Anyway, the NAS GUI deleted it. That GUI is still strange after you move or delete something, it doesn't seem to refresh the display or the share folder tree. Even when you back out and in.
But I looked in explorer and the GUI deleted the folder and file.
Thanks for the help!
BJB - rgrenaderAspirantMy ReadyNAS Duo is using the following software: Copyright © 1996-2012 NETGEAR ® | RAIDiator 4.1.13
I cannot see anywhere where I can delete files and/or folders from the GUI interface. What am I missing? Is there a newer version of RAIDiator that will provide the Dashboard interface I am looking for? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredrgrenader you have an older device which doesn't have this feature in the GUI interface. Your NAS won't get this feature though you could try some add-ons if you need this.

Huh?mdgm wrote: rgrenader you have an older device which doesn't have this feature in the GUI interface. Your NAS won't get this feature though you could try some add-ons if you need this.
http://nasname/shares lets you delete files and folders on a duo v1 (as long as http access is enabled for the share). - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOops. Forgot about that.
Though I can't see the option to rename or delete files using that. Perhaps I'm missing something? - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
What you see depends on whether webdav is enabled (or not).mdgm wrote: Though I can't see the option to rename or delete files using that.
Without webdav, when you navigate into a share there is checkbox next to each file or folder. Along the top there are controls for copy, paste, delete, rename, new file, new directory, upload, and a couple of others.
