Can't see anymore my Readynas on Lan....
Hi all, I upgraded my PC and before that I was able to see my ReadyNas Ultra 2 Plus on my Lan. Actually, my nas is detected by raidar and on my network page I have the icon of my nas (clicking on it, it sends me to the front view panel...which I can access). Before my computer upgrade, in the network page I had also another icon for my nas and clicking on it, I was able to see the content of my nas ( like a normal disk ). Readynas Remote is installed and the login is successful......WHAT AM I MISSING ?

- SlaskyAspirantWell since you recently updated your computer, I'd look at your network settings before suspecting the NAS. There might be some security update resetting your network settings which needs to be activated again.
Try disabling windows firewall and check if network sharing is enabled. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI suggest you also try entering \\nasname\sharename in the windows explorer address bar, and see if you can access the shares that way.
- michelefacciniAspirantI can access the share also....
A little explanation : my computer's upgrade consisted of installing a new raid 0 made by 2 Vertex4 SSD and transferring on it the image of my OS (which was on a Vertex Turbo SSD).Everythink works fine but I have loosen my nas icon on Lan.
Because I have also my OS virtualized too, I compared the services ( if activated or not...) between the host and the guest OS. I can't figure out what I'm missing. For sure before my upgrade, I had on the network page two icons of my nas : one that permitted me to open the nas as a normal disk (to view the content ) and one which accessed the front view.
As suggested by Slasky, I disabled Windows Firewall for local connection.
What is weird ( if I'm not wrong ) is that if I click on the ReadyNas Remote icon ( which says me that I'm on-line ) and choosing (by a right click) 'Connect to ReadyNAS...' , the following page is open OPERATING SYSTEM(C):->Users->me->AppData->Roaming->Microsoft->Windows->Networks Shortcuts->ReadyNAS Shares.
If I click on that ReadyNas Remote Folder shortcut, my Documents page is open ??????????????? - SlaskyAspirantWell it seems that the shortcut in question is wrong somehow.
Have you tried reinstalling ReadyNAS Remote? I've heard people having trouble making it work, haven't tried it much myself though.
If you can access the shares by using StephenB's way, then it seems like its a ReadyNAS Remote problem. Is the virtual computer on the same workgroup as the NAS? If it's not, then you won't see it under network in Windows Explorer - michelefacciniAspirantI just power the virtual pc on to compare what are the OS's services activated or not (my virtual windows 7 is just a standard installation I just use it to test new software). My problem is not on that guest machine but on my real pc (host).
Just to clarify one point : is ReadyNas Remote necessary to see the nas under the local connections ?
I have installed Dreamweaver CS6 and also FTP Cute Pro and with these two applications I can manage to transfer files from my NAS. - SlaskyAspirantFTP is a solution to transfer files, but if the NAS and the computers are on the same local network, and a member of the same workgroup, they should be able to transfer files amongst them and see them under the networktab in windows explorer.
So to answer your question, no readynas Remote isn't necessary to access your files locally. The program is basically used to access files easily from a remote location.
As Stephen said, if you type \\YourNASname or \\YourNASIP in either a windows explorer window (not internet explorer) or on start -> search or in the run command you should be able to access your shares and be able to transfer files (keep in mind that the shares must be activated on CIFS under the shares options in frontview). - michelefacciniAspirantHi all,....I went a little bit over in troubleshooting my problem...here's a little summary :
- Frontview is accessible...
- Installed Transmission Remote GUI, it works fine...
- Installed Cute FTP Pro, it works...
- My website is accessible
- Configurated Dreamweaver CS6 site, ok I can access my nas website folder
PS: My pc is connected to internet through a wireless adapter and the router assigns static ip for both my pc and my nas
I can see my father's pc (which has not a static ip assigned by the router and his pc is directly connected to the router) . I can't see from my local connection either my nas as a disk either my second pc which is connected to my router by another wireless adapter. From my second pc with \\192.168.0.2 (which is my nas), I can access my nas content as a disk. Doing the same thing on my pc, it says the net is not started or not present !
What am I missing ?
Start having a little headache..... - SlaskyAspirantThe router might block connections between wired and wireless net. It would be weird, but its a possibility. Some router have the possibility to isolate wireless networks, meaning computers connected to it only can access the internet, and not any local computers.
- michelefacciniAspirantI will investigate that...even if I didn't modify anything on my router....I'm quite afraid that something occurs on my OS settings during my upgrade that's why I was checking the services...Thanks for your suggestion....
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIs is possible that the upgraded PC thinks it is on a public network? Try going into network and sharing center in the control panel and check that (resetting the network to "home" if needed).
Some other thoughts:
Have you tried "net use" from the command line?
I'd also check the credentials manager for the machine that fails, and make sure the right username/password is entered for the NAS credentials.
