Dead Readynas - extract data
Hi,
My readynas seems to have died. Literally no response when I try and turn it on. I've got as far as checking the fuse on the plug.
Firstly, any suggestions on what else I should check,
Secondly, if it really is dead, can I extract the content somehow? It is set up with x-raid.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFrom your profile data I am guessing Readynas duo v1. If you purchased your duo in Jul 2010, that is what it must be. Also, check on your purchase date. If you joined the forum awhen you purchased, your warranty expired around July. But if you joined to do some purchase research, you might still have coverage - the warranty period is 3 years.
One way to extract the content is to connect drive 1 to a Windows PC, and use the freeware Linux Reader software from here: http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/
If you are getting no lights/fan sounds, then it is possible that the power brick failed. You might be able to find a replacement - maybe try support.netgear.com and see if they have any advice. - maniacAspirantThanks for your reply. I'll check out the warranty.
How does diskinternals work? Is this software I install onto a linux machine, and then connect the first(?) disk from the readynas as a an internal drive onto a windows machine on the same network as the linux one? How could it retrieve data from just one of the drives, when presumably it is spread over the 3 that I have in it?
Sorry, I'm probably completely mis-understanding... - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserLinux Reader is Windows software. It only works if you have two disks (xraid). Since your profile said duo, I was assuming duo v1 (as I said in the original post).
However, you apparently have a different NAS. So let's start with "What NAS do you have?" This link is really helpful if your label says duo or nv+: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/ - maniacAspirantSorry, it's a NV+ v1.
I have a support ticket open with netgear, and it looks like I'm under waranty. So hopefully it won't come to needing to use the extraction software. Nontheless, I am intrigued if you have the inclination to shed any further knowledge.
I have 3 1.5Tb drives in an xraid array. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere is a guide to mounting the v1 drives here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=306 But dbott's server appears down right now.
My guess is that you have a failed power supply, hopefully Netgear will get new hardware to you quickly.
