Duo drops off network after boot

Help required please!

I’m having trouble with my ReadyNAS Duo RND2000 v2. After a few years of trouble free service, my ReadyNAS became unreachable a while ago, so I tried a few actions suggested on the forum, including an OS reinstall. This didn’t appear to work as I never reached the boot mode options menu – I wasn’t able to cycle through the options using the Backup button. I’ve tried to connect directly using 192.168.168.168, but that is unreachable.

So the state of play at the moment, is that during the boot sequence, I can detect the device using RAIDar and ping it at 192.168.1.64. So the DCHP is working. However, when the boot sequence is complete the device disappears off RAIDar (I don’t get the chance to choose setup) and becomes unreachable via ping.

Blue power light is lit and steady, disc 1 LED lit and steady, disc 2 LED is flashing (but disc 2 is removed at present), act LED gives a single flash every 7 seconds or so.
Interestingly, I can’t power down the device by holding the power button, only by removing the power at the wall plug.

Any suggestions please…..

First of all, you have a Duo v1, not the v2 ARM platform. The v2 wasn't released until Nov 2011. (Yes, the label probably says v2, that doesn't mean it is the v2 ARM platform). See http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/ You should update your signature accordingly.

It is possible that you have a full OS partition. Enter an on-line support ticket via support.netgear.com.
  • Thanks Stephen - Having checked, it is actually a version 1, despite the label on the bottom saying v2!
I'm out of support with Netgear, so presume I need to purchase a maintenance agreement and part with £56?!
Is there a different boot menu sequence for the v1?

I'd try the on-line support w/o the maintenance agreement, and see what they do. You could also try an OS reinstall first (being careful not to do the factory reset by mistake). This won't hurt your data, but might not cure your problem...

If they require a fee and you have a backup of your data, one alternative is to rebuild the NAS. This will wipe your data and config though. This can be done via the factory reset procedure. Or simply put the disks in a PC and delete the partitions ("volumes") via the disk manager (right-click on computer and choose "manage").

The boot menu is here: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu
    Scroll down to the "Duo / NV / NV+ / X6/600" section.

  • Thanks for your advice Stephen.
I raised a case (free of charge!) and the advice back was:
Option 1 - reset to factory default
Option 2 - insert a new HDD into slot 1 and see if problem persists

I tried option 2 and the problem was still there, so I then chose option 1!!!

Now transferring the back-up copy onto the NAS!

I appreciate the importance of the backup now.....
