Yes I agree that all my suggestion may achieve is an OS reinstall after the disks are reinstalled.
I thought that since he's been advised to factory default the unit he could achieve this without destroying his data.
Would support not have suggested this because they thought there was a problem with the software on the device rather than the disks?
