Failed upgrade
I have a ReadyNAS NV+ that I tried to upgrade the firmware this Monday. After the usual upgrade message, I got the "please reboot" message and I did. It did not reboot quickly.
On Wednesday (2 days later) it still had not rebooted and I decided it would never do it. I switched off and switched back on. It does not boot and gets stuck with LEDs 1 and 3 (no bootable RAIDiator image). That makes some sense, since apparently the upgrade failed.
I tried the following things:
- Made three different USB sticks with a new image. Tried to install. None worked.
- Tried TFTP. Does not work.
- Tried OS reset. Does not work.
- Removed all data disks. No change.
- Tried Factory Reset. Does not work.
Each time, no matter what, after the *first* flash of all LEDS while holding the on-button, the LED 1+3 pattern immediately appears. That means that I cannot get to the stage where it will accept a USB or TFTP.
Does anyone have any other ideas? It appears to me that my faithful NAS is beyond repair, or at least I am totally out of ideas.
Yes, I have an alternate NAS that can be re-configured to take its place. Yes, I have backups of everything. But I'd rather have my old NAS back.
Thanks,
Mark

Tried OS reset. Does not work.
Did you try OS - re-install from the boot menu? Can you boot the system in tech support mode?
Also you can call NETGEAR support and open a case. - X_rayAspirantThanks for your note.
No, I cannot get to the boot menu. No, I cannot boot it in support mode. It never gets that far in the process of starting up. The LEDs blink once and after that it gets stuck with LED 1+3, in all attempts. That's all it will do. Also, I noticed that the LCD screen never lights up. And all that because a firmware upgrade. - atanas2AspirantLet me know if this works for you.
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... v_nv_x6600 - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou could also try removing the current disks (NAS off) and see if RAIDar detects the NAS when you power it diskless.
If it does, you could also try inserting a spare disk into the diskless unit, and see if that installs properly. - X_rayAspirantI have extensively studied and used the link you provide. None of the options of holding the on/off button or holding the reset button work. I have removed the data disks and tried to boot. No good.
- atanas2AspirantWell this is not good. Try StepheB suggestion. see if this works for you.
- X_rayAspirantI tried his suggestion before I asked the question. It does not work.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIs the NV+ still under warranty?
- X_rayAspirantNo, it is ~5-6 years old.
