Files on ReadyNAS read only after saving
Hi, we're using a ReadyNAS NVX with 4.2.5
Each time a user with Win7x64 opens an office file, edits and saves it afterwards, the file becomes read only for this specific user. We're working with Active Directory and Group permissions. But after saving the office file, the user is explicitly listed in the security rights with read only permission. Also, the user is listed as the owner of the file! He wasn't before though...
I have read through this forum back and forth, but the only discussion I found was on
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=32101
Unfortunately without any result... So any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance, Marco

- bedwardsnexlearAspirantI found the "Notify me upon replies" default so I should get notifications going forward. In case it helps:
Active Directory setup involves one trusted domain: homedomain.lan is the local domain, remotedomain.local is the remote domain. Users and groups from both domains appear in the User Accounts list. No quotas are assigned (that is to say, each Quota entry is blank). No private home folder shares enabled.
CIFS settings:
Default access: Read/Write
Allow guest access: enabled
Groups allowed full control on share ACL: homedomain.lan\users, remotedomain.local\remoteusers
Recycle bin: enabled (default settings)
Advanced CIFS Permission: Automatically set permissions ... enabled, Do not allow ... disabled, Group Rights: Read/Write, Everyone Rights: Read/Write
Oplocks: enabled
Advanced Options:
Share folder owner: root (will not let me change)
Share folder group: domain users (will not let me change)
Share folder owner rights: Read/Write (greyed out, unchangeable)
Share folder group rights: Read/Write
Share folder everyone rights: Read/Write
Set ownership and permission ... disabled
Grant rename and delete ... enabled
Advanced Share Utilities: disabled
While I do not care for these security settings, this was the only combination out of dozens we tried that would actually let our local and remote domain users use this file share without multitudes of Access Denied, Parameter is Incorrect, etc., error messages.
TIA - Cain1AspirantOne of my users seems to constantly have problems with saving or editing then re-saving files on the NAS (ours is an Ultran 2 Plus)....
I want to use our NAS as if it were another HD located on my three user's computers. I want them to be able to create, read, write, edit, copy over an existing file with the same name and so forth, easily and transparently.
The only way I was able to deal with this problem for one user was to log them is as the NAS administrator, then she can do whatever she wants, but she woiuld prefer to only see the Shares on the NAS not the c: and admin shares, etc. - kevsterrrrrAspirantHi All,
I am also having the same issue as above, I have found a workaround it seems for my setup although this issue has just reared its head which is odd.. I have Readynas Pro 6 (4.2.17 firmware) joined to an Active Directory domain of Server 2008 domain and forest functional level.
I have a top level share (DATA) ACL'ed as per the following link: http://www.readynas.com/?p=1987 the folders underneath (Users and Operations) are ACL'ed also as per the link with the domain groups for all staff and domain admins with full control upon them propagated through the stack. Now, if a user creates a folder or a file, they become the owner and also have full control of it, the domain groups have read only access so no other user can modify the files.
Now, I have found something odd, the advanced permissions on the DATA share are set to : 'Share folder owner rights - Read/Write" | " Share Folder Group Rights - Read Only" | "Share folder everyone rights- disabled" like i mentioned prior, this wasn't an issue at system implementation and these settings were working as expected prior..
I created a new share and folder, left the permissions in the readynas share setup all as default (all Read/Write) set the acls as per the link above and the group access follows the folders as expected.. when trying to change my current DATA folder setting from "domain users - read-only" to read/write it gets reset to read-only so i cant fix my issue it seems unless i recreate a share and move the data?? but that will have a detrimental effect on my replicate jobs i have set up.
I have upgraded the readynas devices from 4.2.16 to 4.2.17 since this implementation so perhaps that is where the issue came in. - bedwardsnexlearAspirant
bedwardsnexlearn wrote: Having the exact same issue. Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) clients save a file to a share governed by Active Directory ACL and the file becomes read-only such that they can no longer directly save the file while editing. What they can do is to save the file to their desktop and then copy it over the existing file in the NAS share. When they do this they do not receive an error message about the file being read-only. Problem can be duplicated. Windows XP users do not see this problem.
Model: ReadyNAS Pro 4
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.19
Please let me know what I can provide to help troubleshoot.
Note: for some reason I do not receive emails when someone responds to my posts but I'll try to watch this thread closely for responses
Issue has been discovered to be occurring on Windows Vista 32/64 clients as well. - GrievousAspirantAlright, there are about 4 or 5 different things going on in this thread. The original topic was about 4.2.5, that's long been dealt with. Users are talking about 4.1.7, 4.2.17, advanced CIFS permissions, files becoming read only after having been opened in an application, etc.
Everyone, please make your own thread about your issue. I'm not asking you guys to do this just to sound like a jerk, but that way we can actually keep track of which details belong to your specific problem. If you already have a thread, please update that instead. - bedwardsnexlearAspirantIf anyone would like to follow my thread, feel free to post a hello at viewtopic.php?t=57150 and you'll be notified when there are new posts.
While this problem is major-league annoying, I don't personally consider it bad enough to move away from using these devices. Hopefully the users group at work feels the same way. It's more of a "roll your eyes" problem than an "I want to kill my IT guy" problem. I'm confident it will get fixed eventually.
