Forgotten username and Password for ReadyNas NV+ RND4000, How to reset os without losing data
Hi,
Forgotten username and Password for ReadyNas NV+ RND4000.
How can I reset the device with losing data. I have tried holding the front power button down for 5 seconds to reset the os, but just seems to shut it down without refreashing the os, or it has worked but the factory default username and password are wrong.
Any ideas?

Which firmware is on this unit? You can check e.g. in RAIDar.
The default password varies depending on which unit you have and which firmware.
If it is a NV+ running RAIDiator 4.x then it is 'netgear1' (no quotes)
If it is a NV+ v2 running RAIDiator 5.3.x then it is 'password' (no quotes)
If you have a NV+ running RAIDiator 3.x (not sure why you'd want to still run 10 year old firmware but anyway...) then it is 'infrant1' (no quotes)Also as the v2 is a very different product the boot menu procedure is completely different for it compared with the one for the v1.

You are using the wrong procedure.
If you are running 4.1.x firmware, then you have a v1 platform. The default factory settings are admin / netgear1. The OS reinstall procedure is on pgs 23-24 in the manual here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RND2110/Duov1_NV+v1_HW_en_06Dec11.pdf
If you are running 5.x.x firmware, then you have a v2 platform. The default factory settings are admin / password. The OS reinstall procedure for v2 is on page 24-25 here: http://www.readynas.com/download/documentation/HM/ReadyNAS_Duov2_NV+v2_HW_en_19-Sept-11.pdf

Good point.
Pressing and holding the POWER button for about 5 seconds (first blink of disk LEDs) on the v1 would result in skipping the volume check.- StephenBGuru - Experienced User

On power up it skips the check. If the NAS was already powered up (and it sounds like it was) it just forcibly powers down.
Either way it won't do an OS reinstall...
