How to disable raid after I connect disk to computer
Hi,
how can I connect my disk from raid to computer ?
I have x-raid, I had there 2x1TB disk.
Now I bought 2x2TB disks and I hoped that my x-raid (expandable) will just expand to 2TB :-). A unpluged first, put in 2TB and wait for mirroring, then I did same with second 1TB disk but now I have 2TB disks in raid, but there is still just 1TB free place.
So, I can format it and create new raid, no problem. But I am lazy copy all data from nas to COMPUTER, so I would like be able disable raid on that old 1TB disk, which in now on the table, not in nas :-).
Can I do it with some SW for windows ? you know... I will connect it to sata, run windows and then use tools to disable raid so I will have accessable all data and I dont need copy them from nas to computer.
How to this ?
(or how expand my NAS, I have there 2.2TB disk, all is workiing ok but there is just 1TB place)

2TB EARS and EARX disks (btw, those disk solved my problem with very slow copy speed (250Kbps) from nas to computer, it moves about 10kbps with news disk :-) ) - ludovit8Aspirantok.. bad information, just some files could be moved on normal speed, after I want start move all nas data, speed 250Kbps is back :-(. So 1000 hours to be finished.
So I need connect old raid disk to non raid computer for sure. Can you help me ? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIs your PC connected to your network via ethernet or Wi-Fi?
- ludovit8AspirantCable, nas - router - pc, microtic 1gb port.
Copy from nas to pc is slow.
From pc to NAS fast.
If there is copy from nas and to NAS at once, all speed are fast. Wierd.

And can I extend my raid to 2tb without formatting? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired
- ludovit8AspirantI read this. But I have still just two disk, my NAS can not have more. I just replace two 1TB disk by two 2TB.
But now I have raid disk volume still just 1TB (and 2xTB inserted).
So X-raid works only if I add more disks ? X-raid expendable funcion doesnt work just by adding same pieces but larger disks ?
If I will do new raid and format, I will lose all settings in transmission (I had to set up all torrents and wait long hash procedures). That is why I am intersting in how to expand my raid without formatting.

And that slow transfer. I forgot add, that after I connect my NAS by cable direclty to my PC (so no router in the middle) copying speed is normal. I tried change router but router is ok.
So.. NAS - cable PC works ok, copying speed is fast in both direction.
but NAS - router - PC, copying speed is ok just PC to NAS, but NAS to PC transfer is very slow (250kbps).
Disk can not be problem too, I have now new one in NAS and compatible. I tried changed also cable. I really dont know where is the problem. - ludovit8AspirantIt should expand automatically, as I read here:
http://serverfault.com/questions/435336 ... adynas-duo
and here:
http://blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/2011 ... TB-to-2-TB
but it doesnt :-(. What can I do, to x-raid start that expand procedure again ? - ludovit8Aspirantok, after restart and
After changing the settings go into Frontview > System > Shutdown > Check and Fix Quotas on next boot and expansion should begin.
it expand to 2TB !!! So this problem solved and now I dont need connect old disk to computer.
(but If somebody know, how to connect disk from raid from nas to computer (sata and non raid) and see all data on that disk, he still can say :-) )

So now there left just that problem with slow copying from NAS to PC.
Btw, I forgot to tell you that if I change cable and connect nas directly to PC (so without router in the middle) all speed in both direction are very fast!! - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFor a Duo running xraid / raid1, you can install linux reader on the PC (http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/). For a v1 (4.1.x firmware) you can then read disk-1 if you connect it to your PC using sata/esata or a USB adapter. With a v2 or x86 it shouldn't matter which disk.
If you have more drives (e.g. raid-5 or raid-6) this tool won't help you. Also, Linux Reader doesn't claim btrfs support, so I don't think it would work with OS6. - ludovit8AspirantSORRY, FOR BOTHERING YOU.... my slow speed was due to bad cable (router - PC) so my mistake, somebody who make that cable use bad schema or just make a mistake..
I was sure that I tested new cable, but maybe I test just that one from NAS to router. My computer was working on that bad cable ok, but copying from nas via router to PC has the connection problem (slow speed).
Now, after I made new cable with right schema speed in both direction are about 24-50mbps :-) !!
