How To Fix POWER ISSUE, ReadyNAS Duo V2 RND2000 - MUST READ!

First of all i request this topic be Pinned or sticky set so people can resolve this issue without the pain i have had to endure! - Thanks!

If you have this ReadyNAS Duo V2 RND2000 with the radiator Firmware 5.3.5 (or any of the above models with hard drives in) and you have had it for 24 hours to a few days and you cant get it to power on with the following symptoms....

when power plug is attached, you get a brief power LED for 3 seconds (ish) then it powers down to its Off State and remains off no matter what.
no activity whatsoever
resetting from back button does nothing at all

The likleyhood is that you have activated the auto power off function in the firmware which has a problem, after the NAS powers down useing the firmware "Power Timer" function the NAS will not power up ever again!

THIS NEXT PART WILL AID YOU IN FIXING THIS PROBLEM!
- WARNING -
THIS INVOLVES DE CONSTRUCTING THE NAS UNIT AND COULD VERY WELL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!

To fix this issue you have to remove the CR2032 battery that is fitted to the motherboard of the NAS

Start by striping off the side panels, Remove the rear panel with the fan attached to it, Remove the screws to the Upper panel (roof panel), remove the screws to the motherboard (main board mounted to the side of the NAS, then remove the Cell CR2032 Battery from the motherboard. give this a 3 min period before you re fit the battery and reverse the process)

THIS ISNT IT YET!!! - HOLD YOUR HORSES!

now you should be able to get your NAS to function! Woo! but the auto power off function is STILL ON!!
You must navigate to the IP of the NAS in your Browser and turn off "Enable Power Timer" function in the Settings section of the NAS Firmware settings page.
Once you have done this, you should be ok to carry on doing your work!

This has taken me some time to have this problem resolved with my own, and its only with time and repetition i have managed to sort out this problem myself.

  • Has anyone seen this problem on Raidiator 5.3.6? I did a FW update before doing my first set up and I'm getting a similar problem, if I power off via the browser interface I cant use the button on the front of the NAS until I have disconnected the power and re-connected. Also, WOL doesn't work either until I disconnect power and re-connect. I have checked the bios version, and its Uboot-1_1_4-NetgearDUOV3-V1009 so that should be ok right?? any ideas? Hopefully it's properly fixed in 5.3.7 whenever that comes out!
  • Well, I wish I had read these forums before today...!

I received my brand new Duo v2 on Friday 26th Oct.
Spent Sat 27th setting up, playing and transferring data. Transferred more data on Sunday 28th and decided to set the power timer. I am now looking at a brick..

    Radiator 5.3.6

However, I did download the logs before it failed

    U-Boot 1.1.4 (Nov 15 2011 - 17:59:57) Marvell version: 3.4.27
Netgear version: Uboot-1_1_4-NetgearDUOV3-V1007 If U-Boot Endiannes is going to change (LE->BE or BE->LE), Then Env parameters should be overriden..

I suppose it has to go back....

Yes that's an old u-boot. The data would still be O.K. So if you purchased the disks separately you could try returning the NAS unit to the reseller in exchange for a new one then move your disks across: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another

Once the NAS boots up you could then download the logs again and if it has the old U-boot manually install 5.3.6 over the top of itself to update the U-boot.
