How to format an external USB drive from OS 6.1.1 ??
I feel a bit stupid, but I couldn't find a way to format an external USB drive with my 312 under OS 6.1.1.
The drive is mounted, it is even possible to access its content (it's an EXT3 drive generally used with a NVX)!

- ScottChapmanApprenticeHmmm... Which USB port did you attach it to? Anything special about partitions? Was it formatted on windows?
I wonder if there was a fix in 6.1.6... - xeltrosApprenticeWas connected to front USB port, can try rear if you want. It was an USB classical enclosure for 2,5" drives.
Was formatted under windows server 2012R2 that's the only device I have that can create NTFS. Did a quick format with default options, I was in no mood for finding names so I called it NTFS.
Since it's mentioned in the spec sheet I believe you can call Netgear and ask. - nealjaneAspirantAnyone had any luck with a usb Hard drive formatted as +HFS format from a mac?? Its just i gave it a try on friday - started doing a backup from our RN516 of <2tb of work to the usb hard drive, started backing up - server was pretty much unusable while it was doing it on friday evening [slow]. monday morning and the 516 has crashed, backup log states failed due to not enough space on the usb drive when there definitely should have been.....
what external drive format is best for os6?? - theres nothing stated anywhere on this!! - help!!
aslo - is it normal for everyone logged in under AFP to get disconnected when you plug or unplug a usb drive from the rn516?? - nealjaneAspirantI'm on v 6.1.5 os by the way...
- xeltrosApprenticeI believe that when you plug a drive, the NAS updates the configuration file and reload services. Same thing when you update user rights I think (at least via readycloud). So I believe that this is normal or at least expected since a user should never be disconnected.
My first transfer was from an USB HDD in HFS+ (I think I formatted it when I was still with snow leopard) and had no problem except those of NAS instability which have been mostly solved by updates. Never tried since then.
