I can't get windows share to work
Hi,
this is the scenario, I have 3 shares defined on my readynas pro4.
name: backup
CIFS/AFP default access : R/W
Hosts allowed access: not selected
Read-only users:not selected
Write-enabled users: not selected
Allow guest acceess: not selected
name: clinique
CIFS/AFP default access : R/W
Hosts allowed access: not selected
Read-only users:not selected
Write-enabled users: not selected
Allow guest acceess: not selected
name:other
CIFS/AFP default access : disabled
Hosts allowed access: not selected
Read-only users:not selected
Read-only groups: FINANCE
Write-enabled users: not selected
Write-enabled groups: FINANCE
Allow guest acceess: not selected
I have 4 users defined in the readynas, one of them is "xav", now when I try to map network drive using any other credential other than xav credentials, I get bad username or password and I can't even view my shares.
This is sooo weird.
at the begining only xav had access the share "other", and somehow its as if the readynas is stuck and I can't get it to refresh the new info.
when I try to map network drive,
Im using this:
username: ipaddressofnas\username
password: password
I have to put the ipaddress above just because the default domain on this credential window is my windows login name and I need to change it. Am I loggin in correctly?
Please help,
any new info is appreciated.
Thank you

- SlaskyAspirantWhen you try to access a share from a windows machine, it sends the credentials you have logged in with, so thats the reason why it doesn't choose the NAS "domain" or your AD domain.
Is the users defined on the NAS or in an AD domain? If they are locally defined (on the NAS), I suggest you try creating users with the same logon-name and password on the local machines / domain username as on the NAS. This will bypass any login request due to the credentials being the same.
If you access the shares directly from a windows machine and check the security-tab on the folder or share you want to access, you can add specific users or groups there in the NTFS rights section. This is probably why you can't access it. Try changing it here (to either your domain username or the local NAS user / group)
To do this, you either have to log on your machine or share as username Admin (create a local user if you dont have one, with the same password as your frontview admin user, or enter the credentials) and then change the rights or ownership of the folders and files. - kam1AspirantYes the users are created on the nas.
So are you telling me, if I don't have the user account credentials same as windows, I can't login to nas? wouldn't this work:
username: ipaddressofnas\username
password: password
and why do you think that it works for 1 specific user name, i.e. xav (I am not logged in as xav on my windows machine), the only thing special about xav is that in the inital nas setup I gave him the only r/w over the share "other" then I removed it to have the above mentioned setup. - SlaskyAspirant

It should work the way you describe, although you could try "yournasname\username" instead of ip address.
Using windows-users with the same name and password only simplifies the login and access to the shares, nothing else really.
Do you type the usernames excactly as you created them as? Unix-based systems (the base OS on your NAS) is case sensitive with usernames as well, i.e. my user is named Alex, and if I type alex (with a small a) I get incorrect logins.
What you could try, if you type the names correctly, is to recreate the users and see if the problem still persists
EDIT: Clarification - kam1Aspirantyes same user name as in nas, its all lower can anyways.
Yes I will try to recreate the user names, you are right, xav I had to recreate it I think so maybe this is why it works.
Ill post an update - kam1AspirantOk, I tried something else and I found its strange, I tried to export my userlist and I got this:
!password_encrypted=1 localsid=S-1-5-21-3917168638-3287900303-2241696648
'NAME PASSWORD GROUP EMAIL UID QUOTA LANMAN PASSWORD NT PASSWORD
test ... ... ... 1002 0
ken ... ... ... 1005 0
max ... ... ... 1007 0
xav ... ... ... 1009 0 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 1D50F9DCD6628ECACA60C2C73EA7CFB1
Only had a LANMAN PASSWORD and NT PASSWORD and I am assuming this is why only xav can access the shares...
Any hints why this is happening??
Thanks. - SlaskyAspirantI'm not sure, it can be some corrupt software or just some bad stuff happened when you created those users (maybe in a update process or sumtin).
Try recreating and see if the userlist exports differently. Or rather, create new users while the old ones are there, and try to export the list again to see if there are any difference.
