I need a Screenshot of Backup Source
As much as I try I do not seem to be able to set up a back up. I cannot connect and don't know if it's the PC (Win XP) the Modem/ Router (Virgin Media Superhub) or my ReadyNas DUO V2.
If I knew I had set up the ReadyNAS properly I could move down the chain and look at other things. Problem is I'm lost as to what to put in the Backup Source options. There seems to be no definitive guidance on this and as much as I have looked at may threads on this board I am still stumped.
Screenshots would be really helpful as I am not a techie.
I failed setting up the e-mail notification as well, but that's another story.
Anyone out there set up a successful connection with an outfit similar to mine?
Cheers

- Using these settings I did manage to get one backup job from my pc to the NAS working...
BUT it will not connect again now!
I just get this message:
ERROR
Access Denied, Invalid Username or Password
code: 7077010013 - NottubAspirantTry ignoring the error message and see if you get a back up.
I started with folders with one or two files in them.
I have now set up numerous back up jobs and they all work fine.
Be careful with the settings though as it's very east to either miss spell a location or forget to share the source folder, check them carefully.
Martyn - gmd1AspirantHi all, just to add my own voice of deep frustration having the same experiences documented in this thread. Brand new ReadyNAS DUO V2 arrived this morning. I have spent the whole day fighting the same backup problems discussed above. Windows Vista, with latest firmware updated on ReadyNAS but it simply will not connect to any network shares or hosts. Yes I have a Virgin SuperHub as well. Having spent hundreds of pounds on this bit of kit only to find it will not do the job I bought it for is "somewhat annoying". I wonder if any Netgear people are reading this and might like to comment? I am so [expletive] off with this total waste of a day. Apologies, but I just had to get that off my chest.
Netgear are you listening or reading???
Graham - Joeye1AspirantAnd here comes another frustrated owner of a Duo v2.
I've spent 3 days trying to do the same setup as you, without success.
I must say that the product is nothing but crap. I just wanted it for the basic stuff: automated backup and server storage but it fails.
I don't understand how the Duo v2 can get so good reviews (which was my base for decision) everywhere!?!
Where is the product documentation showing how a proper backup/setup is done, with working and tested examples?
Netgear, next time skip the fancy stuff with animated fan and get the basics right!!
I'm returning the crap to where I bought it. - AmidalaNETGEAR Employee RetiredAs your said, add a new backup job from remote to NAS:
Source :remote Windows
Host:IP address of the Windows XP Machine (for example: 10.40.0.149)
Path: My Documents (for example: abc) (Must be open the Shared folder)
Login: user name (If log in Windows XP machine, need to enter your user name and password )
Password: password (If log in Windows XP machine, need to enter your user name and password )
Destination: share: backup - AmidalaNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf the folder of Windows XP machine is not open share folder, I could get the same error message:
"Error: Cannot connect to share because of an incorrect network name or permission was denied." - HERBIEOAspirantHello all
I was having some problems working this out and after several hours eventually solved it,
select the folder you want to share right click and select properties, then sharing tab and select advanced sharing,
tick share this folder then click permissions at bottom, all you need to have is administrators,
but make sure your log on account for windows is admin account.
Edit: It may help to add everyone permissions aswell but i found i did not need it.
click ok and go back to advanced sharing tab, take notice of the share name,
the folder i am sharing is My Pictures but the share name is only pictures.
now go to frontview and set up your backup job
remember what i said about taking note of the share name, as you can see above the path only has to be pictures
because thats how the share will show up on the network so your NAS will find it ok.
dont forget to put in your user name and password that you log onto windows with and all should work fine.
hope this helps someone it can be frustrating i know. - jedAspirantDidn't work for me I'm afraid. Job runs completes with no files copied.

Same problem here, test connections all work, click to run a backup, starts and goes for about 2 minutes and stops - no errors , no log. Doesn't copy a thing. - rc3675AspirantAs a test, have you tried setting the Backup Options; Shedule Ful Backup to "Everytime" and then re-run the backup job?
I'm just suggesting this in case it thinks the 1st abckup has already been completed and hence only trying to do an incremental backup.
