incorrect match with Plex

Hi

I have Cars (2006) and Maters Tall Tales (2010) on my ReadyNas drive, but PLex sees both of them as Cars (2006).

I have changed the metadata manually, and that is ok, but it still show the length as 1hr56mins (that of Cars) and the poster as the same one used for the Cars art!

If I refresh the metadata for Maters tall Tales it bring up the poster.jpg I have in its folder, but it then proceeds to change the thumbnail for Cars to the same one, when I refresh Cars it changes both movies back to the Cars thumbnail again....

Any ideas Welcome please...

What format are the movies? DVD, MPG, MKV, etc...
  • I'm not getting many moveis to match at all! out of about 260 I have less than 100 matched. I've even take the time to go through all the titles and put them in the correct format which is

    filmname (year).format
    e.g.
    Spiderman (2008).mp4

Mine are all sorts of formats, .avi. mp4. mkv. .m4v .divx etc

You can correct through the Plex Media Manager but its sooooo slow. I'm using Firefox on a Mac is it any better on a PC in IE9?

If you haven't already you may wish to ask about this on the Plex forums as well. The Plex team monitors their forums.
  • All sorted now with regards to matching, after maniny failed atempts, and geting rid of any 'cars' metadata from Maters Tall Tales, it finally found an match option that I was able to select....next problem is 3rd part clients (ie PS3 or allshare on Samsung TV) often do not see the files/folders in the main movies or music folders on my plex server, after seeing them all day, suddenly "an error occurred" (as in the one case) or just nothing show up at all (in the case of All share!!!) will turn up! Plex clients continue to see all files ok.

Only way to get 3rd party clients to see files again is to restart ReadyNAS!
  • i would suggest turning offthe plex dnla server. it really isn't ready for primetime. for some samsung tv models prior to 2012 there's a dedicated plex app you can download via smartcenter. and it works way better than anything else. same goes for iOS and androids. as for the ps3, the dnla server included with the readynas works fine, so i go with that.

regarding matching movies, try setting the metadata agent for the secion to freebase, seems to work better than cine21, at least for me. the scanning does take ages, that's mostly plex talking to all sorts of internet services, not the nas.
and in the most recent version of the web manager there's a nice button that lets you fix the matching result, you can even perform manuals searches there. very handy.

    cheers

    s.
  • I can will try unchecking cine21 for future matches, but currently the cars / maters tall tales was the only problem one...it was in the end the custom search that eventually had luck with, thanks.

with regards to the plex Server, I found this the nicest one as all my clients, inc the 3rd party ones, see its thumbnails very well (although allshare does skew them to a diff ratio) and most of the imte I dont have to add them manually either.

However, if I do want to "turn off the PLex DLNA" how would I do this? and wouldnt that just make having it pointless??

And while Im asking "how to..." questions, if there is a need to update PMS, how would I do this as mine installed on the ReadyNAS, is it as simple as putting the new .bin file on as I do to first install it?

    Thanks again for advice

PS StephenB my files are predominantly .mp4s with a few .m4as thrown in! Keeping the ISO files separate until I have devices that can play them!!!

I agree, Web Manager is very slow, I am using it on Chome on PC, but software would be nicer, a way to link it to the Collectorz software would be even better as all my DVDs / Blu Rays are already catalogued on there!

I also dont like the huge number of genres it creates automatically either, genres IMO is suppsed to narrow the choice and there shouldnt be dozens of them - but that is not a major issue, I just delete them all, but the ones I want, each time I add a new file :)
