ip assignment issues
hi.
apologies if this isn't posted in the right place. i'm struggling to connect with my readynas ultra 4 and i cannot figure out the following:
i am using an almond+ router that assigns ip addresses in the 10.10.10.x range. long story short, my nas was assigned 10.10.10.113 and life was grand. somehow, and i'm sure i messed something up, it reverted back to an old ip address (192.168.1.100) and i could not direct connect and fix it. i finally decided to go through the boot menu and do the os install, hoping that settings would reset and when i connected the readynas, it would pull a new address on the 10.10.10.x spectrum assigned by my router. when i connected the ethernet cable, it showed me the text re ip assignment and then pulled the default address: 192.168.168.168. using the raidar utility, i cannot connect (bc of the mismatched ip addresses, i think). why would it pull this address? what should i do? i have not had much luck with the direct connect option (changing the properties of the ip4, etc).
any help would be sincerely appreciated. i'd love to be able to access the info i have on the device and simply cannot figure out how to connect once, let alone set something up that is lasting and works.

- Can you power off the NAS (press the power button briefly, then when prompted to press it again) and then once it has powered off boot it again and see what I.P. it gets?

rebooted it. says "booting." then "requesting ip." then again pulls 192.168.168.168
caleb - Maybe reboot the router and any intermediate switches. Then pull the LAN cable to the NAS for a few seconds, and try reconnecting it.

Is your NAS directly connected to you Almond+router? If yes, I believe your existing router has other LAN ports...try to connect your NAS to other LAN ports of your router then check if it will get an IP Address and if it will not switch back to its default IP address of 192.168.168.168.
Consider setting a static IP address to your NAS that is within the IP address range of your local network. - I've seen similar behaviour on my network and traced it to a dodgy network cable. Try hooking your NAS up with a new ethernet cable and see if it gets the right address.
- thanks, all. will try to replace the cables, reset the components parts -- almond+ and the network switch in between the router and the nas -- and perhaps directly connect the router to the nas. will report out and see if any of these help the nas pull an ip address in the right range.
- 192.168.168.168 is the address the NAS uses when the router fails to respond to the NAS DHCP request.
Most of the time it is a network issue between the NAS and the router. The second most likely cause is a failed NIC in the NAS. - not sure what a failed NIC is, but hope it's not that. and if it is, how should i go about resolving the issue.
thanks. - NIC -> ethernet hardware in the NAS. You'd need a new unit if that's the problem (and I suspect you are out of warranty).
- thanks. if it was a NIC issue, would it affect both of the ethernet ports? as far as i can tell, when the cable is plugged into either, i get the same 192.168.168...
