Missing share folder since new Win7 PC: Case#19619258 SOLVED
ReadyNAS Duo [X-RAID]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.10 [1.00a043]
Hi all
Firstly my apologies up front if this is solved in other threads, I promise I have spent a couple of hours looking already but to my untrained eye, no issue seemed to quite match so here I am.
My Duo had been perfect for a few years until recently my Win7 PC died (hard disk death). Had a new hard drive fitted, Win7 reinstalled and now can't find my Duo share folder with approx 80GB of music/photos on it. The router and Duo haven't changed at all so what is missing in my set-up? I have reinstalled RAID on the PC and already tried upgrading the firmware up to the latest version (4.1.10) but this hasn't helped.
What can I do? And the more 'layman' you can make any suggestions/instructions, the better - I'm not dumb but I'm no network guru and because my Duo has been so reliable since initial set-up, any knowledge I acquired at the time is pretty rusty.
Thanks (in hope and desperation)
Olly

- ollymcAspirantI've tried upgrading the firmware so I guess its one for support - there are the two standard 'backup' and 'media' folders (which came with the NAS but which I don't use) but not my own key share folder with all the data in it.
- HERBIEOAspirantAre you talking about users home folder not showing up ?

If so, then this most likely is because the new Windows PC is not using your NAS username/password with the NAS. By default it presents your windows logon/password. You can solve this by using the windows credentials manager (in the control panel).HERBIEO wrote: Are you talking about users home folder not showing up ? - vandermerweMaster

If the windows PC is not presenting the right credentials, then I don't understand why this (above) did not work, nor do I understand why the share cannot be seen through frontview - it is apparently not listed in the list of shares. - HERBIEOAspirantMake sure user and pass are exactly the same it's case sensitive so best check, the other thing you can try is map the drive so it will show in windows as a mapped drive then you can browse it from computer on desktop, to map the drive open command prompt and type "net use t: \\192.168.x.xxx\c /user:admin passwordhere" without the "" and change ip to ip of your nas and put your admin password in, you can then check if your user home share is there if it is it would suggest that the user and pass you are using in windows is not quite right.
- vandermerweMasterYes, but the OP cannot see the share in frontview - this should not depend on authentication issues. If he can access frontview, which he can, then the share should be listed.
- HERBIEOAspirantNot sure about the DUO and Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.10 but on the Duo v2 since Firmware: RAIDiator 5.3.5 that is normal behaviour you can only see the share from your computer in windows explorer once you log on with the correct credentials, maybe someone with a Duo with Firmware:RAIDiator 4.1.10 can confirm this,
but if he tries what i suggested above he can check if the share is actually there even if it does not show in frontview. - vandermerweMasterDo you mean you cannot always see all shares in the dashboard. That seems very strange if you have logged in to Dashboard. It's got nothing to do with windows explorer
- HERBIEOAspirantWhat i am saying is On Duo v2 since Firmware: RAIDiator 5.3.5 this was changed the users private home shares do not show in frontview before 5.3.5 they did show in frontview, maybe its the same with Duo and Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.10 but if he can check to see if the share is there by mapping the Nas drive with admin credentials he will be able to see everything in the root of c: including the home folder with the users private shares.
- vandermerweMasterThat's interesting. I would assume that if you login to dashboard you're logging in as an administrator and would be able to administrate!
