Netgear ReadyNAS 1100 - spec's and limitations?
I got offered one of these for a fair price, but i suspect they are getting rid of them just in time. They are Readynas NV+ relatives, sparc based, 2TB / drive limit applies and so on? How is the perf...

Rofl, should teach me to read the release notes more thorough, i guess. I got the NV+, so i should have seen that one coming.
But i did find one crazy question i'd like to ask. When it comes to "mods" whats there to know about the 1100 ? Seams there isn't a whole lot on it here, or anywhere else i see on the net. I saw a mentioning of it supposedly being 8 drives capable, but that was as far as i understood, only in theory, based on the chipset's features. Are the sATA hookups available on the PCB, and if so, did anyone ever try hooking sATA headers to em, and connect drives? Admittedly, this is just curiosity, and probably wouldn't happen even if it was confirmed working. Where would one put the drives? No, it's not realistic, but it's one of those "what ifs".
Seeing as the memory in the 1100 also is a DDR module, is it replaceable, is it recommended, what specs would be right? (Well, it was never recommended from NetGEAR, i know that, but any personal experiences?) At least the 1100 comes with twice the memory of the NV+, i guess to partly make up for the slower processor. I have a few DDR 1GB modules laying around, i'd probably stick one in and test it, just for good measure. I think i even got some 2GB Quantum DDR SO-dim's that should work. (As in, they should be healthy. No idea whats working in the 1100)
Didn't work with the NV+ tho. If it's memory timings, or if it's to much memory, odd design... No idea.
