Network Password issues
Hi Guys,
I am relatively Tech un-savy, so please forgive my lack of knowledge. My issue is this. I have a ReadyNas nv+ 4425RND that has functioned well until yesterday. I have moved office and moving was no problem, however yesterday I relocated the NAS and it's IP address changed. I have unmapped the shares in My computer as the mapping did not seem to work. I can see the share files if I click on the ReadyNas icon in My Network, so for all intents and purposes everything is working correctly. However I cannot access the shares for the following reasons:
*The NAS has been asking for login details every time I try to access a share,
*FIrstly a Windows security Password window appears with the following text "Enter your passowrd to connect to: (IP address of ReadyNAs) Below this is a box for username and password, and under that is Domain:Chriss-PC (Name of my computer). i have the option to Remember my credentials and then there is a red corss with Specified network password is not correct. I would add a screen dump but I can't figure how to do this.
*If I type in admin for user and my NAS password, it doesn't except it then takes me to another window which also says "Enter Network Password" Enter your password to connect to:ROOMNAS. It has the WIndows Admin user icon with CHRISS-PC\Admin and then a box for me to enter my password.
The thing that I can't understand is that my windows login/admin password has not changed, I have never been asked for a User name/password before I moved teh ReadyNas and teh User name and password I am using for the NAS has been set and reset after the move to confirm it is correct. This also seems to be a windows issue more than a ReadyNAS issue. I am runing Windows 7 Preofessional 64bit with an Intel core i7-2600cpu. My workgoup is set within the NAS and on all computers correctly-nothing here has changed. THe only thing that has changed is that I moved the physical location of the NAS and as a result it obtained a new IP address.
Help please as I cannot access my Shares!
:x  :(

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserNetgear deprecated share-mode security some time ago. It remains available if you are still using it, but it will disappear altogether if you ever do a factory reset.
Since it is deprecated, I don't think they are likely to fix your issue. - marktb1961AspirantIn case it helps some-one, I've been having a similar problem to the OP, as follows:-
After upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, I keep getting prompted for username/ pw to access my ReadyNas share. No surprise there, except that - as described by the OP - the user name was pre-fixed with a Domain name (name of computer) and the correct user/pw combination always failed.
After trying various internet advice such as above, to no avail, I stumbled onto the idea that I was already connected (to guest access) and this seems to have been the cause. Perhaps Win7 was irrelevant.
To fix - I closed off the window to the NAS folders and closed off iTunes (which may have had the NAS open as my iTunes library is located there).
Then I was able to login with the username and pw of my choice.... successfully and obtaining the access I required to the NAS. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWindows only allows one set of credentials for a given server, so it is quite possible iTunes was messing you up.
One trick is that Windows treats \\nasname and \\nasipaddress as two different servers, so you can use one login for \\nasname and a different one for \\nasipaddress - wakey05Initiate
marsano wrote: I have spent the last week on this issue. My laptop runs Windows 7 Pro x64. Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ runs Raidiator 4.1.12. Was getting the "Enter Network Password" prompt on only 1 of my 8 shares. Here's what fixed it. I went to my Shares listing and entered a password for the troublesome share, then pressed "Apply". Verified that Windows Explorer still could not access files on the share. Then I went back to Shares listing and deleted the password for the troublesome share, pressed "Apply". Voila. Now Explorer sees all files on the share. Clearly this is a bug in Raidiator (my opinion).
Hi
Found this info with a search on the forum - I had inserted a usb flash drive into the front of my readynas nv+ to see if I could provide some expansion for non-critical files, and got the Enter Network Password (Enter your password to connect to Readynasxx). This worked a treat, so thanks to marsano and the forum.
cheers - ThucydidesAspirantI am running Win 7 64bit Pro and was trying to connect to a ReadyNAS Duo v1 (sparc) with 4.1.12 FrontView and RAIDar 4.3.8 When I tried accessing my Duo I was constantly getting the dialogue box for Network User Name and Password when accessing through file explorer. I tried numerous Win 7 solutions posted in this forum and various other web forums all with no luck. Finally I allowed guest access in FrontView for CIFS portions. So once you are in FrontView (advanced mode), click on Shares --> Share Listing --> CIFS icon -->Default Access: switch from disabled to read/write --> scroll down and select "allow guest access" --> click apply in the lower right. Once I did this for each share I had, I had no problem accessing my ReadyNAS files and folders on the Duo.
I should say that in addition I have Win 7 Pro set to the following in Network and Sharing Center --> Advanced Sharing settings
Turn on network discovery
Turn on file and printer sharing
Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders.
Media streaming is on
Enable file sharing for devices that use 40 or 56 bit encryption
Turn off password protected sharing
Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections
I hope this is of use to others out there...believe me, I know how frustrating it is to keep keeping that network user name and password request! - shylajohnAspirantI think there is no issue to reset the password because you may easily reset your password.

I finally fixed it. It took a lot of digging to find the right posts but here it is:

"With newer OS'es like Windows 7, Windows 8 / 8.1 and OSX Snow Leopard, the "Share" security mode featured on some older ReadyNAS devices like the NV+ is unfortunately no longer supported. The solution to the problems this causes is to migrate the ReadyNAS to "User" security mode. In "User" mode, individual user accounts are created on the NAS for each person that will access it. That user account is then granted appropriate access to shares, rather than the shares themselves being password protected. To migrate to "User" mode, 3 major steps are required:
Change Mode
Create a User for you to access the NAS
Fix permissions so that new user account has full access to the data, as before.
