Network path not found
Here is my issue. Everything was working fine, Ive been using my ReadyNAS for about 2 years. Minor issues happen but they tend to fix with a restart. I access my ReadyNAS on a Mac and a PC running Windows 7.
All of a sudden when I try to access my drives on the PC I get an error message:
"An error occurred while reconnecting Y: to
\\NAS-C1-DE-8A\LoneStarPress
Microsoft Windows Network: The network path was not found.
This connection has not been restored"
I usually dont have issues connecting to the NAS on my PC (the Mac tends to disconnect randomly but with a restart to the NAS it always seems to reconnect).
Im using a ReadyNAS Ultra 2.
I have not found any suggestions on this forum that have helped. Any suggestions welcome.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserNormally I wouldn't expect this problem to show up suddenly unless you made some changes in your home network (a new router, or perhaps a new PC). Installing/updating an internet security suite or firewall on the PC might also create issues with name resolution I guess.
- yrntugolfnAspirantWe did actually just get another MacBook but I think this issue is more recent (within the last week) and we've probably had the new computer a few weeks before anything happened. I havent even accessed the NAS from the new computer yet.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserProbably not the new MacBook then.
- yrntugolfnAspirantOne of the issues I have been having is my Carbonite backup cant access the drives so I gave them a call to trouble shoot. It appears the issue is that my NAS has the same IP address as the computer. They couldnt instruct me how to adjust that but maybe you can?
More info to help: my Mac has issues where it stops connecting and I get a window that says "The operation cant be completed because the original item for LoneStarPress (one of the file names in the NAS) cant be found" When I restart the computer I can access the drive. Im not sure if that means that my Mac also has the same IP? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you ever set a static IP address on either the NAS or the computer? Generally that is the cause of duplicate address.
If you did this in the NAS, then if you go in via the Web UI you can change the IP configuration to get the address automatically. IF you can't get into the Web UI, the fallback is to do an OS Reinstall (NOT a factory reset). That will change the IP address configuration to automatic (DHCP), and reset the admin password back to the original factory value. Data and add-ons would not be affected.
Most routers can reserve IP addresses (giving you the benefits of a static address, and the convenience of automatic assignment from one device). What router do you have? - yrntugolfnAspirantI didnt change anything on my computers but I might have on the NAS when I originally set it up. I have been able to get into the online setup for my NAS.
My ReadyNAS connects to a Lynksys wireless G 2.4 ghz. Will I need to do anything no the router too? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserJust changing the IP address to DHCP in the NAS is the main thing.
Is it a Linksys WRT54G or something else? - yrntugolfnAspirantWhen I go into frontview Under Network>DHCP it says:
"The service is not available because your current IP or DNS addresses are obtained through a DHCP service. Configure them statically and isolate this device on a network that currently does not have a DHCP server to avoid conflicts."
Under Network>Ethernet1
"IPv4 assignment: Use values from a DHCP server" is selected.
Is this already correct or should I make a change or select "Renew Now" for the IPv4 assignment?
The router is a WRT54GL - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserNetwork->interfaces->ethernet is the relevant configuration, and it is already correct.
I think the next step is to check to see if the carbonite folks are correct.
If you log into the router, you should be able to see all the devices that are connected.
If you can't figure it out in the router pages, try Advanced IP Scanner (http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/). That should show you all the devices you have turned on, and give you their IP addresses. - yrntugolfnAspirantI can long into my router but I dont see where it shows everything connected. The issue with my iMac disconnecting to the NAS has been happening more often to. I get the window that pops up "The operation cant be completed....cant be found"
Also, sometimes Ill have a window that pops up on the Mac that just tells me the NAS disconnected.
