Not appearing on Win7 Network

Hi all,
Had my ReadyNas Duo for some time now and today my router randomly decided to return to factory settings. Stupidly I didn't have a backup but within 30 mins or so I had my home network up and running and everything works fine apart from one thing.

My ReadyNas no longer shows up on Win7 under network as a "computer", it is there as "media device" and "storage" and my raspberry pi can find it to stream (both fixed IPs) but to simply browse files I have to use Radar which I never required before.

Can anyone help with this?

I thought I could circumnavigate the issue by mapping it as a network drive but as it doesn't show in the options list I'm stumped.

Thanks,
Paul

Enter \\NASNAME\SHARENAME into the Windows Explorer address bar (NOT Internet Explorer) and you can browse it (or map it as a network drive). Be careful to enter the correct \
  • Actually there seems to be a bigger issue. When I try to log onto FrontView I get "no shares currently accessible"?

Edit: The above seems ok after a reboot but I'm still not seeing it as a 'computer' on Win 7.

This issue has been reported several times by various posters. In some cases the some PCs on the home network see the NAS as a networked computer, but others do not.

AFAIK there is no solution, other than to use the \\nasname\sharename approach above. Note in addition to mapping drives, you can also create shortcuts.

How bizarre. Anyway, this has prompted me to make a backup of my router settings and to update Radiator so no bad thing. I'll map that drive when it's done!

    Thanks.
  • Had exactly the same problem with my new RN10200. Tried a couple of solutions and finally came up with one that works (at least on my system):
    - With computer running, shut down the NAS "gracefully": press the on/off button once and then again when it blinks;
    - Wait for the NAS to shut down (LEDs off)
    - Restart the NAS by pressing the on/of button once
    - wait for all LEDs to turn on
    - Click the network icon in Windows to rediscover the network devices.
Works for me: hope it does the same for you!
  • After a few reboot cycles of all of the devises (for other things) it started appearing again. Thanks for your reply anyway.
  • Have the same problem on a couple of Windows PCs in a network. Simple workgroup and have put the network mapping in explorer but have done it for both the \\192.... and the \\NASNAME\ variants just in case. Problem not addressed here is that if you want to work with say Excel file on NAS server frequently, the recent files gets mucked up when it can't see the \\NASNAME\.
Not a critical problem here but makes you wary of integrating NAS. For example I use Memeo to save files from the windows PCs and it frequently gets stalled "looking for path".
