NV+ powers itself off

I have an NV+ that I keep trying to use as a storage for some images however, I keep finding it powered off. I have moved it to different places in the building, connected it to ups, checked the settings for the autopoweron etc nothing makes any sense. there is nothing in the logs except unexpected shutdown, which is usually the time that I come to it and attempt to power it back on. It then immediately goes thru a raid check etc.
I am out of ideas, what can I do, I updated to the latest firmware etc.

  • It could just be a bad/failing PSU. Please post your serial number, as there are some units that have a known-problem with the PSU. If the unit has a serial number in the known-range, you should call support for your area. From what I understand, each Netgear regional area determines whether or not it will be covered if it's outside of the warranty period. I know those folks that live in North America have had the PSU replaced free-of-charge, even if it's out of warranty.

A small percentage of ReadyNAS NV (revision B) and NV+ owners with low-noise fanless power supply unit (PSU) may encounter a premature failure of the PSU due to elevated temperature. The ReadyNAS systems affected have Serial numbers between 000DA2010FFE and 000DA2016000. If you are unsure if your serial number falls within the hexadecimal range, you can use a hex calculator. (Click hex and overwrite the '0' with your serial number and click dec.)

FWIW, it happened to me, too: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=45731&p=260466#p260466 and the PSU was replaced free of charge.

Yes, I think that looks like a ReadyNAS serial number (it's the same length as the serial number for at least one of my NV+ units). Please don't post your serial number on a public forum (edit your post to remove it).

Your serial number has 13 digits (not the 12 of a MAC address) and is not the same as the MAC address of the NIC in your NAS. This indicates you have a newer unit than what is covered by the service action.

When did you purchase the NV+? If it was purchased brand new on/after Aug 21, 2007 your ReadyNAS would still be under warranty.
