NV+ v1 full backup - how long?
Hi, I have an NV+ v1 running a full backup via FrontView to an attached USB external HD (plugged into rear top port). External drive formatted as NTFS. FrontView found the USB HDD and has been running the first full backup for a couple of days - maybe longer already. FrontView comes back as null via the browser. See the ACT light flashing and also see activity on the external USB HDD.
How long should the process take for about 1.5TB? At what point should I disengage?
Thank you all so much.

- vandermerweMasterI think you are looking at 2-3 days, possibly longer.
The absence of Frontview access a concern though.
I would let it go as long as there is activity on the USB drive. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserUSB speeds for NTFS are about 3 MB/s.
It is much faster to connect the USB drive to a PC and drag/drop over the network.- Solomon22Aspirant
and what USB speed for backup to FAT32 USB drive??? I use ReadyNAS DUO v1

FAT32 is a bad idea if you have large files, as it can't hold anything > 2 GB.
For USB speeds with the Duo v1 see this post which has some rough estimates:
chirpa wrote: The speeds are something close to this:
NTFS = 2.5MB/s
FAT32 = 5MB/s
EXT3 = 10MB/s
EXT2 = 14MB/sThe fastest way to back up a v1 is over a gigabit network. Even fast ethernet is much faster than NFS/FAT32 speeds.
- platoniumAspirantSo, using a transfer calculator, I come up with 5 days. I can see the USB share with no problem via Finder and see files and folders inside it.
Suppose I'll see how things go by Halloween. Thank you so much. - platoniumAspirantReally appreciate the help - just a quick update that the backup stopped finally and FrontView is up again. Much obliged.
