Orb crashes, always
I am running Orb on a ReadyNAS Ultra 4.
It's strange, but while I can get Orb up-and-running for a day or so, I always find that it crashes within 24 hours. It will work on all my media players (PS3, XBOX 360, iPod Touch) for several hours, but then I get the following:
By crash I mean that I will see the Orb as a source in my media players, but as I dive into the folders, there are no videos, no pictures, and no music files.
When I access FrontView I see "std::exception" in the Orb control panel. Hitting the refresh link in there gives me more of the same.
The only solution I've found is to unclick the checkbox for Orb, apply that change, then re-enable Orb by checking the box and applying again.
It will work for about a day (I've never checked in every couple of hours to verify, but I know Orb never works for more than a day).
I've written to Orb a couple of weeks ago, and got no reply. Likewise, I see no mention of this problem in this forum.
Any thoughts?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of RAIDiator? Have you verified that you're running the latest version of the addon?
- Right, I forgot to mention that I am running Orb v1.4 and RAIDiator v4.2.15
Thanks again MDGM - Does anybody have any thoughts on this? The Orb company itself is unresponsive...
- anderssurfarenAspirantI have the same problem. Great service Orb but it does not seem to be stable.
First I had problems using a password that partly came from the username I wanted. But did not get any error messages. After installing on a PC I found out that this was the problem.
Thankful if I could get Orb to work on my Ultra 4. Any suggestions in that direction would be greatly appreciated!

Same situation here ! - I spoke to Orb's Technical Support today.
They say that they recognize the problem are working with NetGear to understand better the problem.
My noob hypothesis is that Orb is not playing well with the X-RAID2 configuration, or something like that...
I will update here if/when they update me via email (as they promissed they'd do) - PhilnzAspirantI'm having the same issue so would welcome any update you get. I've not pinned it down yet but if I scan one folder for Movies or TV or Music it seems to work ok. But if I add two folders or more then when I refresh I get the error after indexing freezes after about 1/3 through. Then get the STD::exception error.
Stopping and restarting gets the orb service running again but any refresh of content results in the same error. - aladdaAspirantIalso get this error.
Just to verify Philnz i also get orb working when i stop and start the orb service.
Running:
Model: ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.17-T2 - vic20ianAspirantSame issue, even tried reinstalling it and it doesn't even start service anymore.
I think the cause is the flaky DLNA on readynas, mine has been "updating" for over 2 weeks...... - MindBenderAspirantGot the same problem on my ReadyNAS Pro 6, running RAIDiator 4.2.15 and Orb v1.4.
What's especially annoying is that FrontView doesn't show properly on an iPad or iPhone, so there's no way to stop and restart this service from the device.
If they're looking into it since March 22, a solution is long due...
