You may need a newer kernel and/or btrfs-tools.
Although the ReadyNAS uses kernel 3.0.x there is a lot backported from newer kernels. btrfs-tools is regularly updated.
You could try updating your Debian install to a newer kernel and also updating to the latest btrfs-tools and see if this helps.
In a data recovery situation you would want to do this before connecting the disks from the array.
