OS6 Data Recovery - How to Mount BTRFS Volumes
I recently purchased a ReadyNAS 314 and 5 Seagate ST2000VN000 hard disks (one as a cold spare). I work as a system administrator, so I've been reading up on OS6 before I entrust this new system with m...

I've already updated to the latest version of Debian (7.6.0) and run the updates. I'm not sure how to update any further.
Also, this has the latest btrfs-tools package in the Debian distro (from the standard respository). Would some of the unstable newer builds be better? Or newer, beta tools?
Until I can find a way to mount these disks, I can't trust this NAS. If the hardware failed, the data would be un-recoverable. Supposedly this format follows the Linux (Debian, at least) standard, but if it won't mount, then it's a hardware/proprietary software lock-in.
Are there any other outside open-source packages to troubleshoot/test/mount the array? Would another distro (Ubuntu, CentOS, etc) work better? I stuck with Debian Linux for testing since that's the core used in ReadyNAS OS6 and I figured that it would be the most compatible.
The kernel for the test recovery system (Debian Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64) is named Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u1 x56_64. I'm not sure what version of the tools is installed.
Any further tests I can try?
Thanks,
Stan
