PLEX does not show up in APPs on 6.6.0 Ready NAS 104

I have 6.6.0 firmware. I know this used to show Plex under "APPS".  Now it does not.

I have read the other thread that is marked solved, but it's unclear what "solved" it. That thread mentions multiple random factory resets and also mentions downloading PLEX from PLEX and uploading it to the NAS.

I'd like to know what the real solution or next steps are to troubleshoot this issue. I would rather not do a factory reset.

I think I actually had it set up once, and removed it. Now I'm ready to focus on it, but it's not showing up.

  • I shut down and started my nas but plex still didn't work. That was last night and it still didn't work today.

I decided to try downloading the missing package from the Netgear repository and upload it to the nas. This failed but Plex is now working. Apparently installing the missing package also triggers apt-update?
  • Apparently the 6.6.0 update has been available for testing for a couple of months, so I don't understand how this has been allowed to happen.

I think for the major apps compatibility should be confirmed before pushing through updates. All it takes is a little communication.

The latest I understand on the issue is that 1.2.2 has a temporary fix in place that should get PMS up and running, but it isn't working for everyone.

It's working for the dev I know that, but I have yet to see a thread myself where a user has reported back with success. That's not to say there hasn't been success however.

There still appears to be a lot of users reporting the problem.

  • Hi JenC,

I've received an update to my support ticket today from Netgear. Apparently there is no workaround right now but netgear/plex are working towards a fix.

      Hello Pinkyg,

Thanks for the responding. Yes, as of the moment Netgear is investigating the issue. Plex Media already admitted this and they have released a new build for RN21x, see

      http://www.videohelp.com/software/Plex/version-history

I'm not sure but it seems 100 series is also affected. I guess we'll have to wait. We apologize for the inconvenience.

      Regards,

        Hi JennC,

Many thanks you for your contribution :-)

I'm wondering what testing was done to ensure continuity of PMS with the 6.6.0 readynas update.

After all, the rn214 was heavily marketed towards Plex Media Server so I'd expect any update to be tested with any existing PMS app.

I know my PMS was working without issue before the 6.6.0 readynas update.

  • I updated to 6.6.0 today and have not been able to run plex media server since. I've uninstalled plex and installed 1.2.2 as per the plex update earlier in the comments but that fails to run, generating an error "Application failed to initialize. Empty resource error. Bad NML call. Code: 22002010000".

    Hi Guys,

Please refer the comments below from Plex forum.

To all users with the ReadyNAS RN2xx series NAS (with transcoder enabled Plex Media Server):

We've noticed that the Firmware 6.6 version brought some under-the-hood changes that require tweaks made to Plex Media Server, so if you are running with this device and want to continue to use Plex Media Server 1.1.4 on it, please delay upgrading to Firmware 6.6 just yet. If you are a Plex Pass subscriber, The recent Plex Media Server 1.2.1 has a fix that again makes PMS run on the RN2xx series.

Is there a way to revert back to a previous firmware update to get plex running again?

You shouldn't need to.  Rebooting the NAS should add the missing packages.

You might also want to overinstall plex.

This sounds specific to the RN200 series, not the RN100 series.

It's possible there may be an issue on the 100 series as well.

Is the issue that plex was installed, and is missing from the apps page in the web UI?  Or that it isn't installed, and is not shown on the available apps page?

    Assuming that it isn't installed.

Plex no longer distributes their app through the netgear store.  So it will not show up under "available apps" any more.  So if plex is not installed, you need to download it from plex.tv and then upload it on the apps page.

Once you've done that, it should show up on the apps page.  The install completes in the background, and it can take a few minutes after the upload completes.

It is not installed.  But I know it used to be on the APPS page; it was on my list of things to do.  Now, when I have time to install it, after updating firmware to 6.6.0, it does not show in the APPS section anymore.

Sounds like I need to go download it so I'll try that.

      Thanks!

After reading up on PLEX.tv forums, it sounds like Netgear has dropped compatability or support for PLEX.   Can anybody confirm if this is supposed to work with a ReadyNAS 104 or not?
