PS3 fails to see DLNA without ReadyNAS reboot
Hi all, I've found various threads on this issue but no solution so I'm hoping there's an answer that I've just missed.
When first switched on, my Playstation 3 is only able to see the NAS drive through DLNA when ReadyDLNA is restarted. This can be either through frontview or on a NAS reboot.
All used to work brilliantly. However, the issue first appeared a few weeks ago the moment I upgraded the my ReadyNAS Duo firmware. (I think this may have been the first update for ReadyDLNA). Nothing else changed. I have tried upgrading the PS3 firmware, updating the NAS firmware, re-installing the latest ReadyNAS addon, checking other possible problems (routers, firewalls etc) and of course searching for media servers on the PS3. The ONLY way to see the drive is a reboot of the ReadyDLNA addon.
I now have:
- RAIDiator 4.1.6
- Latest ReadyDLNA ("Successfully installed ReadyDLNA update for 4.1.6 firmware")
- PS3 updated to 3.01
This appears to be a common problem and unfortunately, it does defeat one of the main reasons for streaming video. I don't understand enough about the DLNA discovery protocols to go any further.
Any help or pointers much appreciated.

- sundaytwinsAspirantHi Skywalker,
Latest update off my 'troubles' with the DLNA, the ReadyNAS and my Router.
I finally got my configuration to work. It took an update of the router firmware and disabling 'multicast streams' to get the NAS recognised by the PS3 again. I'm pretty sure now that the problem is within the router firmware and not in the ReadyNAS.
Thanks for you valuable help in understanding (and solving) the problem ! Keep up the good work!
PS. For those still doubting the capacity of the firmware of D-Link's DIR-825 +> the DD-WRT guys published the official DD-WRT open source firmware for the DIR-825 on their website. - merc4a2Aspirant
Skywalker wrote: The Duo broadcasts two different UPnP SSDP services. One is for MediaServer, which it only does when ReadyDLNA is enabled. The other is for Windows UPnP discovery, and only gets sent out if the UPnP discovery service is enabled. In no case will the Duo send out the wrong service type.
I posted the thread about my 1100 only responding to UPnP discovery as a network storage device. I have ReadyDLNA enabled and have confirmed in logs that the media scan completes successfully and have tried rebooting, re-installing firmware, but can't get get the 1100 to reply to UPnP discovery as a MediaServer. However, I did enable the Twonky plugin and it worked very well until the free trial expired, so I don't have a router/network issue.
Still can't seem to get this resolved. I have a second 1100 that does not have this problem, and they are both configured nearly identically. - John_BeanAspirantI recently bought a ReadyNAS Duo primarily for storage and backup, no issues there, but I have similar issues with streaming that have been reported in the thread (I read it carefully before posting).
I bought a Philips 1100/05 Streamium and was really disappointed to be unable to connect wirelessly to the ReadyNAS without a little help from a PC, in my case a laptop also connected wirelessly and running the freeware "Cidero" program. The Streamium never discovers the ReadyNAS until I run Cidero - which discovers it in a few seconds, followed closely by the Streamium. If however I close Cidero the Streamium loses the connection (and can't regain it) if left idle for a few minutes; I have to run Cidero again to allow the Streamium to see the ReadyNAS.
Now I understand that it's probably my wireless router that's losing packets somewhere on the wireless to wired connectivity but I'm puzzled that the uPNP discovery works for my wireless PC but not my wireless Streamium... The ReadyNAS is wired to the same wireless hub, a BTHomehub2 that unfortunately doesn't have any configuration options that could help.
I'm not holding my breath but I thought I'd add my 2p worth to the thread in the hope that something new may pop up. - RuthusAspirantI think a common thread is the BTHomeHub, although it sems other routers have an issue. Using a totally wired soultion with Powerline adapters everything works. Try to come over the wireless link and results are very intermittent. I solved the issue by adjusting the broadcast frequency from the Duo. I know this is not a Duo problem but this makes my set-up work.

It certainly was in my case. Even using wired connections doesn't work if the Homehub does the routing, as I commented on in this thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=42982. - matsernAspiranthow do i save the edit???????????????????
- zipperAspirantJust changed the notify interval to 25 seconds (matsern, google 'vi commands', ':wq' will save the edit).
I'm pretty sure this will solve my problem. My PS3 can't see the service without retarting it via Frontview. Even if the PS3 could see it, I wouldn't want to search for a media server each time I wanted to browse my photos.
If this config change works, then consider me a member of the msomekh fan club! - Chandler1AspirantI have a similar issue, which I'm going to use msomekh's solution to see if it fixes it. My issue seems to be caused by the PlayTV software. A little backstory:
We leave our PS3 switched on but either logged out (due to PlayTV not being able to turn the PS3 on to begin a recording) or in Remote Play (I have a PSP) - now the media server is generally available whenever I go to access it. After running PlayTV and exiting however, the NAS does NOT show up in any of the Photo/Music/Video menus of the XMB on the PS3 running a "Search for Media Servers" (several times) also does NOT have it appear.
The only way I have found for the PS3 to find the NAS again is for me to log in to Frontview and disable then enable the ReadyDLNA service: and this works EVERY time.
Note: I have not tried the 15 minute announce yet - I'll try to remember to check my PS3 for the NAS in 15 minutes...)
NAS details below in my signature
PS3 (slim) firmware v3.60, PlayTV v2.03 (not PS+ unlocked: the features it gives you are useless in Australia, and hence not worth paying for) - choregosAspirantHi,
I've found this thread very useful in suggesting ways to set up my ReadyNas Duo to stream to a Naim UnitiQute. The Qute kept on losing the server, whether I was using the Twonky add-on for ReadyNAS or the ReadyDLNA service. When they worked, they worked really well, and the connection was never lost while playing music - and I could always see the readyNAS from my MacBook. But when I changed input on the Qute, or when it had been dormant for a seemingly random amount of time (varying between a few minutes and several hours) the server would disappear or fail to show up. However, it would sometimes show up again when I stopped and restarted the ReadyDLNA, or rebooted the Duo (but not always! very frustrating!)
So, I tried a lot of things I've seen on this forum (with latest versions of RAIDiator and ReadyDLNA), to no avail.
However, the one thing that seems to have led me in the right direction was Skywalker's insistence that it was something getting in the way of the media player's request to the server (the SSDP search packets, I suppose). I found that my router (BT HomeHub 2.0) was not very easy to configure so I couldn't do anything about ICMP snooping - so I got an old Belkin router out of the cupboard (never throw anything away!), put it in the BT HomeHub's place, and suddenly everything was working! (actually, I might throw the BTHH away...)
No dropouts yet, after well over an hour and several bits of tinkering and input-changing. All servers show up instantly now and don't get dropped. OK, the old router is slower (802.11g) but still more than fast enough for streaming music.
So, just wanted to say thanks to all contributors, particularly Skywalker, and: I know it's not a PS3 I'm talking about here, but for my purposes it was definitely the router getting in the way of proper networking, and not the ReadyNAS, the ReadyDLNA, or the UnitiQute.
:D - T_R_SAspirantI can't get my PS3 to connect to my ReadyNas at all. "No Media Servers Found" is all I get
