Ready NAS Duo stuck.
I recently lost power. when I turned the ReadyNAS back on, it hangs up. The green power LED is three short flashes with one long. then the activity led flashes once. the disk 2 led is a constant flash. RAIDar sees the Ready NAS and shows a blue dot (Background task active A lengthy background task such as a system update is in progress.) It has been in this state for a week. Any suggestions?

- Try to perform an OS re-install. Please follow the steps below:
http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=5029 - jyokomAspirantI am having trouble performing a factory re-install. The instructions are too vague. It says to hols the reset button for 5 seconds and wait for 1 led flash. obviously you have to do this with power on. I see no change when I push the reset button at any time. I called tech support and they wanted to charge me $70 just to tell me if they can help or not. I've only owned this since May. This is very frustrating. I have used Netgear for years and I'm pretty sure this will be my last and final purchase.
To perform other options such as Skip Volume Check, Tech Support Mode, and Memory Test, this is managed via the Power button.
With the system off, hold down the Power button, and wait for the desired LED flashes.
Release the Power button when the option you desire is active.
Systems with an LCD (NV+) will also display the boot menu item text on the LCD at each stage.
Button to Hold Time to Hold LED flashes Boot Menu Mode
Power 5 seconds 1 Skip Volume Check
Power 10 seconds 2 TFTP Boot
Power 15 seconds 3 Tech Support Mode
Power 20 seconds 4 USB Boot
Power 25 seconds 5 Memory Test
Reset 5 seconds 1 OS Re-install
Reset 30 seconds 2 Factory Default - I will recommend that you contact support so that they can walk you thru.
- jyokomAspirantI did contact support. They wanted $70 just to see if they could fix it. I have re-installed the OS but still get the same error with the same LED flashing sequence. What a piece of junk and a terrible customer service.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWas your NAS protected by a UPS, including the ethernet cable. It appears likely you had a power surge that has damaged your equipment.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeOne last try - with the unit off. Locate the reset switch hole on the back panel. This switch is behind a hole that is beside the USB ports. With a straightened paper clip (or other narrow probe, press in and you should feel the switch depress.
With the reset switch depressed, press the power button to turn on the unit. Start counting when you press the power button. At about 5 seconds you should see the LED lights flash. At that time release the reset switch. (Caution: if you continue to hold the switch to the 30 seconds point, you will trigger the factory default which will wipe the hard drives and re-install the OS).
Once again - 5 seconds OS reinstall, no data loss, 30 seconds disk wipe, OS reinstall, all data gone.
If that does not work. I would suggest you open an on line tech support ticket. From the data of purchase, you have 90 days of free telephone support from tech support, after that point the free support is via e-mail. Here is the link to on-line support: https://my.netgear-support.com/registration/login.aspx
Once you have a case number assigned, edit your first post and add the case number to the end. That will help passing Jedi notice the case and follow the case. - jyokomAspirantFinally talked with a technical Engineer. Although it wasn't indicating a bad drive, the solution was as follows. Take each drive out individually and reboot each time. The device wouldn't boot or allow a flash install with the drive in bay 1. All worked as advertised with the drive in bay 2 although all data was lost. We reinserted the original drive to bay 1 and it is currently syncing. At this point I'm not sure if it contains the original data. I do have a backup so all is not lost. This system and the network server are now both on a UPS.
- If the original disk does not have the data anymore then the 2nd disk resyching right now will not give you back your data.
- jyokomAspirantThat was true. I did have a backup. It should be fully restored in a few hours. Thanks for the assistance here. You guys got me going in the right direction.
- You are welocome. Just keep posting. :)
