ReadyDR not working to offsite location

Our client has a ReadyNAS 716 (v6.9.3) and is using ReadyDR to backup their snapshots to a ReadyNAS 516 (v6.9.3).

This has been working perfectly until their insurance company told them to move the 516 offsite.

The 516 is now in an offsite location and connected to rthe internet (can be seen via ReadyCloud), but the backups fail with the message:

ReadyDR job failure: Communication error on send [Jobx] - Replace the x with the particular job number.

When the client was previously using ReadyNAS replicate, moving the backup device offsite worked perfectly without issue.

Our concern here is that we have several clients using this same methodology for their backups, but they are currently using Replicate (which I understand is being discontinued), so when we change them over to ReadyDR, they will not have a working backup mechanism

Any thoughts?

As noted here, you need to forward port 5253:  https://kb.netgear.com/31224/ReadyDR-FAQ  Not said is that you also will need a DNS name (perhaps using a ddns service).

It is also possible to set a VPN between the sites (or to install ZeroTier on the two NAS).  If you do use ZeroTier, your customers should choose to trust their security (as ReadyCloud users also choose to trust Netgear's security).

      Thank you for that StephenB.

It is still not working. I have setup port forwarding to the NAS on the remote router, I have also setup a DDNS account with ChangeIP.com, the router has been configured to use that DDNS account, and the ChangeIP record indicates that it has had a successful request from the router.

On the Source device (716), under the Destination Tab, the "Remote" button is blue, but the Host is showing as nasname.local

I assume that we need to change this also, but what do we put in there?

      Thankyou

You need the DDNS name of the remote router.
